  3. School profile • ~50 StRs • 80% female • 9 new recruits this year • 5 to be recruited in 2014, plus 1 interdeanery transfer • Expect recruitment of between 8 and 12 each year thereafter • 1 Academic Clinical Fellow • 2 Academic Clinical Lecturers

  4. The curriculum • ST1 and ST2 entry points • Liverpool MPH • Part A – Applied exam • Part B – OSPHE • Out of programme placements • Total duration of training is 5 years • Average duration in-scheme is longer • 6/12 grace period

Educational supervision and training locations • ~120 educational / project supervisors • Around 60 active • 36 accredited locations • “New” locations from april 2013 • Local authorities • Public Health England • School hasn’t encouraged inter-zonal swaps or transfers Cheshire and Merseyside currently has >45% of all trainees

Outputs • Fully trained leaders able to compete for the full range of specialist posts available • Directors of Public Health • Health protection • 2 CCTs in august – both appointed to consultant posts • Milestones - exam progression • Part A January 7 passes (100%) National rate (52%) • Part A June 2 passes (66%) National rate (44%)

Key features • Very high degree of leadership and coordination from StRs themselves • Part A and part B • Mutual support • Extending the evidence base • Quality • Organising training • Performance issues – both high and low • Cumbria and Lancashire TPD – recruitment underway. Succession planning for other 2 TPDs • ST3 entry • Quality – educational supervisors and locations • Admin support

Response to 2012 AAV recommendations • Group to ensure quality maintained throughout transition • Task and finish group ensured smooth transition. • Quality assurance in local authorities by high level commitment • 31 training locations in new organisations • Whole School event • Held 26th March 2013 at manchester university • Evaluated very well, including recommendation to repeat in 2014 • Plans for next event underway

Response to 2012 AAV recommendations • Develop training the trainer initiative • 2 general events held in march 2013 • New educational supervisors accredited • Managing trainees in difficulty course march 2013 • Lead employer HR issues and admin support for study leave and organising courses • 2 meetings between head of School and lead employer to address sickness reporting and absence management. HWWB policy in place
