Support for Training in Cheshire and Merseyside • Head of School • Training Programme Director • Lead Trainer in every placement • Each registrar has a named educational supervisor • Each registrar (post-MPH) has a named academic supervisor at the University of Liverpool • Regular registrar meetings across NW • Regular Academic forum for C&M registrars

Registrars across the NW • There are 54 registrars, 23 of them in CM • 9 Registrars joined the scheme in August 2013 (4 in CM) • 5 are expected to gain CCT by July 2014 • Job market is good at present (two having obtained consultant post recently and one locum post) • The intention is to recruit up to 6 in 2014

Strengths and Issues • PH remains a highly competitive specialty with a rigorous recruitment process • High degree of satisfaction with the programme • Changing nature of the role of CPH – does the training we provide fit with this? • Role of LA in training (SWOT, esp after 2015) • Role of PHE on a NW footprint • Public health input into the NHS, esp CCGs and PH role of GPs (some learning outcomes are still geared towards NHS structures)
