  3. CV • Have you got one? • Key things on there: • Who are you? • How do I contact you? • What have you done? • Is it relevant to your application? • Don’t waffle in the profile • Spellcheck but beware

  4. Cover letter • What to put in there: • Where you saw the ad • Why you are suitable • Why you want the job • Keep it to 3/4 side of A4 Max • Type it • Tailor it • Spell Check • Include your contact details

Interview cont. • Who is interviewing you? • Dress appropriately • Think about your body language • Don’t be afraid to pause before you answer • Keep calm • In group interviews address the speaker • If unclear of the question, clarify • Remember the interview starts when you walk through the door • Have some intelligent questions ready

Competency based questions • Behavioural questions backed up with a request for examples • If you can get hold of a job description and person specification before the interview try. • Types of Competencies: • Influencing skills • Decisiveness • Team work • Creativity • Communication • Conflict Management • Organisational skills • Flexibility • Leadership

  9. After the interview • The interview is NOT over until you have left the building, are out of sight and sound • Send a thank you note / email

  10. Other Tips • Join Linked in • What about Facebook and twitter? Beware! • Use your network • Be realistic • Think about your career early • Get experience wherever you can • Research what opportunities are available • Register with a maximum of 2 agencies • Be open minded and flexible
