  1. What is microwave digestion? To quantitatively measure the amount of metal traces present in a solution, the metal has to be dissolved into a solution. Atomic absorption or the technique of inductively couple plasma is used to dissolve the metal into a solution. Hot plate digestion is also a choice but only provides semi-quantitative analysis. ​Microwave digestio​n method is primarily used to dissolve volatile substance like mercury and tin. Recently microwave digestion system has taken a huge rise in popularity. This is because of its time management. The whole process can be completed within minutes while other traditional methods take many hours to complete the digestion process. One such example of microwave digestion system is Qwave 2000​.​ The success rate is also relatively high. This is because of the temperature and pressure is maintained by means of microwaves. Uses The conditions provided by microwaves is so extreme such that, it can become dangerous in handling the samples. Characteristics of required material The materials from which the container is manufactured should possess certain characteristics. It should be immune to action of acids and it should be able to tolerate high temperature in the region of 260 degree Celsius. Apart from these, the material must have good dielectric and insulating property to prevent the loss of heat. There should be no memory left when the container is used for different type of sample.
