False tongue • Psalm 120:3 – “Or what shall be done to you, You false tongue?” • James 3:2-10 • “tongue is a little member and boasts great things” • “defiles the whole body, and set on fire the course of nature” • “no man can tame the tongue” • “out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing” • “My brethren, these things ought not to be so”

  3. False report • Exodus 20:16 “not bear false witness” • Exodus 23:1 “not circulate a false report” • Proverbs 6:19 “A false witness who speaks lies” • Matthew 18:15ff • Proverbs 26:20 “where there is no talebearer, strife ceases” • Proverbs 10:18 • “Have you gone to this person about this?”

False brethren • 2 Corinthians 11:26 “perils among false brethren” • Trouble makers – factions and divisions result • Galatians 5:15 “bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!” • Hypocrites – present one attitude to your face another to your back • Galatians 2:4,5 “to whom we did not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.”

False teachers • Matthew 7:15 – wolves in sheep’s clothing • 2 Peter 2:1-3 “bring in destructive heresies… follow their destructive ways” • Two General Categories of False Teachers: • Honest and Dishonest • Dishonest know teaching error & do it anyway • 2 Corinthians 11:13,14 • Honest are honestly mistaken – Matthew 7:21-23 • Both are False Teachers – Both are Condemned by God

False way • Psalm 119:104 “Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way” • Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” • John 14:6 “ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

  7. False balance • Proverbs 11:1 (ASV) “A false balance is an abomination to Jehovah; But a just weight is his delight.” • Matthew 15:1-9; Mark 7:6-9 – Tradition is a False Standard of Authority • John 12:48 – judged by the Words of Christ • Revelation 20:12 – judged according to our works

  8. Don’t allow yourself to be a party to anything that is false! • Rather, Cling to the Truth in All Things! • Measure your Conduct in This Life by the Word of God • That we all might be at home with Him some day
