Responsibilities of SOE during site visit • Hold dates: October 20 - 22, 2009 • Provide materials for team room • Sample syllabi with learning objectives to smacgregor@scu.edu • Assessment Reports & Program Review documents if needed • Attend meetings with visiting team as requested • Leadership group • WASC committees • Other meetings as needed • Optional • Faculty Senate Council, October 21, 3:30 - 4:15 pm • Open meeting, tba • Exit meeting, October 22, 11:30 am

Talking points for meetings with visiting team • Thank team for their contributions to higher education (peer review process) • Assure team of widespread commitment to student learning, excellent teaching/scholarship, culture of evidence • Assure team of wide support for TSM, CCC, IE • Tell team anything you think they should know

CPR expectations • Learning objectives on syllabi; websites • Assessment of student learning at dept/ program level • Direct Assessment of student work • Indirect Assessment not sufficient • Program Review • Each program • Each degree level • Graduate Programs • Graduate Level academic culture • Graduate Program reflects mission

  6. Preparing for WASC’s 2011 EER site visit • Ask about student success (retention & grad rate) • Disaggregate by gender and ethnicity • Share conclusions? Actions needed? • Apply WASC’s Capstone Rubric • Senior Design, Graduate Projects • Consider rubric scoring with calibrated scorers • Apply WASC’s Educational Effectiveness Framework • Learning • Teaching/Learning Environment • Organizational Learning • Be prepared for Program Review exercise

Action Items • Mark CPR and EER dates on calendars • Oct 20 - 22, 2009 and Feb 7 - 9, 2011 • Welcome WASC Visiting Team in October • Attend meetings with visiting team as appropriate • Send syllabi with learning objectives to my assistant Smacgregor@scu.edu • If needed: Provide Assessment Reports and Program Review Documents • Recommended: Use WASC rubrics for departmental discussion • Recommended: Consult Carol Gittens or Diane JP about rubric scoring for evaluation of randomly selected student projects or work
