A New Constituency • This new, connected generation approaches everyday tasks differently… • …And they expect to be able to interact with all aspects of life online, including government • How will Regional Planning Commissions provide services to a technology-enabled citizenry, including • The General Public • Local Elected Officials • Board Members • New Employees

RPCs and Tech – Two Perspectives • Internal • How can an RPC take advantage of specific new technologies to be more efficient, while providing a higher level of services to its members? • External • How can an RPC increase member interactivity/communication/coordination by using new technologies?

  8. Hardware and Software • Perform an annual technology audit (What do we need?) • Hardware Upgrades(Total or piecemeal?) • Software Upgrades(Industry Standard?)

  10. E-Documents • Easily share documents, both within your organization and with the public • Archive files, form completion • Utilize common file format • Industry standard is Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)

  11. Data Storage and Backup • Do you have a data backup policy? • How often? • What media? • Do you have sufficient storage capacity?

  12. Training • Training is essential when introducing any new software/ hardware / service. • Continuing education on technology will help ensure staff uses technology to its fullest potential. • Training should be included in your technology budgeting.

Website • Often the first impression of your organization • Is it a useful tool or an online brochure? • What is your website policy? • How often is it updated? • Who is in charge of gathering update information? • How often is it re-evaluated or redesigned? • If possible, utilize local students to help offset the cost of website development

  16. Technology Resources • Include technology upgrades in your annual budget • Take advantage of programs that allow funding of equipment • Explore organizations that offer software for at reduced cost for non-profit organizations • www.techsoup.org
