  2. Koffi Annan – The 7th Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Atta Annan is theGhanaian diplomat who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the “United Nations” from 1997 to 2006. Annan and the “United Nations” were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize for his founding of the ”Global AIDS and Health Fund” to support developing countries in their struggle to care for their people. Kofi Annan as UN Secretary-General • In 2005, Mr. Annan initiated two new intergovernmental bodieswithin member States: • Peace building Commission • Human Rights Council • He played a central role in the creation of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as well as the adoption of the UN’s first-ever counter-terrorism strategy, and the acceptance by Member States of the “responsibility to protect” people from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.  • His“Global Compact” initiative, launched in 1999, has become the world’s largest effort to promote corporate social responsibility. Current activities of Kofi Annan • Besides his Foundation, Mr. Annan serves as the Chairman of the ”Africa Progress Panel” (APP) and the ”Alliance for a Green Revolution”in Africa (AGRA).  • He is also a Board member, Patron or Honorary member of a number of organizations. • Mr. Annan currently serves as the Chancellor of the University of Ghana, a Global Fellow at Columbia University in the United States, and Li KaShing Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.
