The Atom and how it is organized

The Atom and how it is organized. Structure of an Atom. The atoms of all elements are made up of a central nucleus with orbiting electrons. A nucleus is made up of positively charged PROTONS and neutral NEUTRONS. ELECTRONS are negatively charged and orbit around the nucleus.

  1. The Atom and how it is organized

  2. Structure of an Atom • The atoms of all elements are made up of a central nucleus with orbiting electrons. • A nucleus is made up of positively charged PROTONS and neutral NEUTRONS. • ELECTRONS are negatively charged and orbit around the nucleus.

  3. Structure of an Atom

  4. Organizing Atoms • In order to organize elements we need to classify them. • To classify and name an element we look at the number of PROTONS that the atom has. The number of PROTONS defines the element

  5. The Periodic Table • To organize the elements we use the PERIODIC TABLE. The periodic table organized elements in the order of the number of protons each atom contains

  6. The Periodic Table

  7. The Periodic Table • How the table is actually organized

  8. The Periodic Table

  9. Understanding the Periodic Table • In each box of the periodic table there is information about the element Atomic Number (The number of Protons) 5 B Element symbol Boron Name of Element
