President/Head of State (Hu Jintao) Formally elected by the National People’s Congress, but in practice the President is selected after negotiations within the CPC General Secretary(Hu Jintao) Heads the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and is the most senior figure of the Politiburo Standing Committee GovernmentCPC

  2. National People’s Congress (NPC) Highest legislative body in Government. Heavily influenced by the CPC, but becoming less dependent. Chairman of the NPC is also member of the CPC Politiburo.3000 delgates who meet annually for two weeks Politburo Most senior committee of the CPC, consisting of 19-25 Members, meeting every month. Role of Politburo is to oversee the CPC. Members of the Politburo also hold positions in the Government. The Standing Committee of the Politburo comprises the senior leadership of the CPC and its members are the most influential people in the country. GovernmentCPC

  3. Standing Committee of the NPC A committee of the NPC with 150 members, convened between annual NPC meetings. Has the power to modify legislation (within limits) Party Congress Theoretically the highest body in the CPC, but it only meets every 5 years and most decisions are agreed before meetings.
