  2. Learning Goals • Connect to what you know already about differentiation • Extend your knowledge and understanding • Challenge you to change some aspect of practice in relation to differentiation Extend Connect Challenge

  3. Know Understand Do • Know the general principles of differentiation • Understand that differentiation is a teacher’s response to learner’s needs, guided by a mindset and general principles • Implement high quality teaching practices which utilise the strategies of differentiation

  4. “Pass the Remote”Reflecting on our learning, making connections • 7 large pieces of paper around the room corresponding to the ‘buttons’ on the remote • Move around the room recording your response on each one • Form a group of 3 or 4 around each one • Discuss the responses, identify and share any common threads with the whole group • Set a goal for today’s learning

  5. Extending the learning: Jigsaw • – specifics of content, product, process - resources on wikispace • Home groups of 3 – each member chooses an area from Content, Process or Product • Access the link on the wiki • Become an expert –20 min • share your key understandings with team – 10 min

  6. Consultancy Protocol Purpose: to analyse complex issues and challenges People: presenter, facilitator(timer) and participants (consultancy group) Procedure: • Presenter gives overview of work-context of the problem and frames a specific question (3 mins) • Consultancy group asks clarifying questions (3mins) • Consultancy group asks probing questions (3mins) • Presenter restates the focus question • Group consults and presenter listens (10mins) • Presenter responds (5mins) • Facilitator sums up (5 mins)

  7. Group Task Groups of approx 6 (30mins) • 1 presenter • 1 facilitator • Consultants Work through the protocol procedure to discuss one issue from your work with differentiation

  8. Pair Share • Pairs (5mins each) • Work with a partner to share your work around differentiation. • Listener asks a probing question • Presenter to respond and reflect • Swap over

  9. What differentiation is and isn’t • Concept attainment • Work in groups of 3 or 4 to sort the statements

  10. Where to next? • How will you share this with your colleagues? • How can I support you best? • Professional conversation in term 3?

  11. Evaluation • Using the classroom observation form- evaluate the workshops on differentiation • (handout) plus on wiki
