    1. School Truancy THRIVE Program “Truancy Habits Reduced Increases Vital Education”

    2. THRIVE DPO DUTIES Liaison between Probation, schools, Courts, School Attendance Review Boards (SARB) and Community Based Organizations (CBO). Work Closely with DA (Gene Kensey, Brandon Ross) and support staff (Yvonne Pampalone). Attend SARB meetings pertaining to probation youth. Work closely with DA and SARB in identifying ways to improve school attendance for truant youth. Attend County SARB meetings. Provide resource referrals to families as needed. Promote and maintain communication with schools throughout Ventura County. Assist THRIVE DA’s with “after hour” presentations to audience of parents and students. Liaison with CBO re: Parent Project, City impact, During the summer session, assist division with workload.

    3. Informal Probation Ordered by the Court (654.2 Welfare and Institutions Code) or placed by Probation (654 WIC) without attending Court. 6 months in duration. Can be extended for another 6 months. Mostly misdemeanors

    4. Informal Contract “The minor will attend school every scheduled day unless ill or excused by the probation officer. The minor will arrive on time for each scheduled class, and will remain for the entire class.” “The minor will bring an updated school attendance sheet, which he/she will obtain from the school attendance office, with him/her to each of his/her scheduled probation appointments.”

    5. Consequences for Non-Compliance with Informal Probation Case closed “unsuccessfully.” Referral to District Attorney’s Office, which can lead to a 6 month extension or a grant of formal probation. Formal Probation can be up to age 21

    6. Formal Probation: Wardship per Section 602 of the Welfare and Institutions Code 602 WIC: Any person who is under the age of 18 years when he or she violates any law of this state or of the United States or any ordinance of any city or county of this state defining crime other than an ordinance establishing a curfew based solely on age, is within the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court, which may adjudge such person to be a ward of the Court.

    7. Court Ordered “The minor is declared a ward of the Court on the following terms and conditions of probation.” “You shall attend school as scheduled and cooperate with school officials. You shall report all class schedule changes, all unexcused absences, suspensions, and detentions to your probation officer.” “You shall seek and maintain employment as directed by you probation officer.”

    8. Consequences for Violation of Formal Probation Community Work Community Confinement/ Electronic Monitoring Custody Time in the Juvenile Facilities Commitment to the Department of Juvenile Justice (formerly CYA, only for serious violent felonies and sex offenses).
