  5. Triggers

  6. trigger BANG!! Click the circle

  7. A trigger is nothing more than an item on your PowerPoint slide — it could be a picture, a shape, a button, or even information in a text box — that sets off an action when you click it. The action might be a sound, a movie, or an animation, such as text becoming visible on the slide Trigger basics: Any time you have an animation effect, movie, or sound on a slide, you can set up a trigger for it. You have no access to the Triggers feature unless one of these effects is on your slide. You must click a trigger directly (as opposed to just clicking the slide) for its related effects to play.

  8. trigger BANG!! Click the circle Insert your image or text which is to act as the “trigger” Insert your image, text, video etc which will appear or play when the trigger is activated Select an effect for the object which will be activated (that’s the image, text, video you have inserted)

  9. Effect selected Click on the down arrow to display the menu below Select the option - Timing

  10. Select - Triggers Select the shape which will act as the trigger Make sure that the video/image or whatever it is, is activated On Click of the trigger object

  11. Insert your image or text which is to act as the “trigger” Insert your image, text, video etc which will appear or play when the trigger is activated Select an effect for the object which will be activated

  12. Timed Triggers

  13. You may want your object to stay on the screen for a set amount of time and then the object to vanish as you may not want it to stay on the screen especially if you have may objects on the screen We are pleased to announce that Adele will also be performing on Sunday 15th May. This is in addition to the advertised Saturday line up Adele How may this be achieved? You will need to add an additional effect on the object – Exit – and add a time to that effect You will also need to consider the order of the effects – you don’t want it to exit before it enters! Also, when the effect starts. Is it an On Click or With Previous or After Previous?

  14. Select the text box and select Add Effect – Exit – and choose the effect you want Move the effect underneath the Entrance effect using the arrows otherwise it will exit before it enters! Click the down arrow and select Timing and enter the desired time in the Delay window TEST it

  20. The first thing you need to do is draw out the number of buttons you need. For this exercise, create THREE buttons Line Up Label your buttons – Line Up, Artist 1, Artist 2 Artist 1 Artist 2 Group the buttons Artist 1 and Artist 2 (select these buttons by clicking on the first button, hold down Ctrl key and select second button. Right mouse click and select Group)

  21. Line Up Select an effect to make the grouped buttons appear Artist 1 Artist 2 You can change the direction and speed if you wish

  22. The grouped buttons are also our object which will be triggered when the Line Up button is clicked so you need to set the trigger like you have done previously Make sure that you are selecting the correct object which will activate the trigger when clicked (you should be able to see the name you have given the shape) TEST you button at this stage to make sure that your grouped buttons appear when the Line Up button is clicked

  23. Line Up Inset 2 more slides – label them Artist 1 and Artist 2 Add a button to each slide Name it Return to Line Up Artist 1 Artist 2 Create a hyperlink for this button so when it is clicked it will return to the Line Up slide (right mouse click the button to display the menu and select Hyperlink) TEST your buttons

  24. You need to do the same for the buttons on your menu – create a link to open the correct artist slides – Artist 1, Artist 2 REMEMBER – you have grouped these buttons and so when selecting your button, you need to make sure that you are only selecting ONE. This is done by clicking on your grouped object and clicking again on the button you want to use to go to the correct artist page – TEST them A second click on the required button will select a single button One click selects the grouped object

  29. You may now have found a problem. The Line Up menu is already displayed when you return to your Line Up. It doesn’t appear to drop down any more! Problem!! We need to do one final thing and then a bit of tweeking – we need to create a slide with a single button – Line Up – and “fool” the user into thinking they have opened the slide containing the drop down menu (which will happen behind the scenes) We will then set a transition on that slide so as soon as it is selected, it will automatically open the slide which has the flashy drop down menu on it. Sounds complicated – well it’s not! We then need to change the hyperlink on the Return to Line Up button to open this new slide instead

  30. Add a new slide BEFORE the slide with the menu. Copy and paste your Line Up button onto a new slide – this will make sure that it is in exactly the same place and the same size etc Line Up Select Transition and unclick On mouse click and click Automatically after (make sure it reads 00:00)

  31. TEST your new button Now change the link from your Return to Line Up to go to this slide instead (right mouse click and select edit hyperlink and select this slide) TEST your links to make sure they work. Get the person next to you to test your links as well to be doubly sure. Cool or what!!

  32. Now experiment with the different features (timings, triggers, effects etc) to see what you can do to make an effective object
