  2. Features, Long Stories and Series - Features are written to entertain/inform. The writer lets the actions and the words of the personalities carry the story. - Long stories provide readers with information about a complicated idea or situation. -Series are written for subjects too complex for a single story. Each article has a major theme.

  4. Tips for Features -Do the reporting. -Spread out background. -Let dialogue and action carry the story. -Don’t over quote. -Get organized. -Make your lead consistent with theme. -Put nut graph high. -Back every general with a specific. Key points should have good quotes, examples.

  5. Organize 1. Identify all themes. Summarize in a sentence or two. 2. Place each summarized theme on an index card. Put the cards in order. 3. Match notes to themes. Reread and rearrange as needed. 4. Find the major theme that will lead. 5. Be willing to report more, throw things out or change direction.
