What makes a person a good parent? • Atticus reads with Scout every night • Bob Ewell uses all of his money on liquor, so his children don’t have money for food or clothes. • Atticus makes his children go to school, even when they don’t want to. • Atticus takes the Tom Robinson case because he “couldn’t tell [Scout and Jem] what to do” if he didn’t. • Walter Cunningham always pays back his debts, and his son refuses charity at school. • Burris Ewell doesn’t go to school and verbally abuses the teacher. • Bob Ewell insults Atticus, Judge Taylor, and Link Dees. • Bob Ewell beats and sexually abuses Mayella. • Mayella is disrespectful and antagonistic towards Atticus on the stand. • Jem says he has never been spanked. • Atticus makes Jem read to Mrs. Dubose every day. • Scout tells Uncle Jack that Atticus always listens to all side of an argument before he decides on consequences. • Scout and Jem are respectful and well-behaved. • Atticus and Jem both believe Tom Robinson is innocent. • Dill runs away because he thinks his mother and step-father don’t need him. • Scout believes Atticus couldn’t survive without her. • Atticus does not want the children to attend the trial.
