  2. LOCATION • The Zulus tribe is located in KwaZulu (a natal province of South Africa.)

  3. CREATION STORY • Over thousands of years of Zulu ancestry( the Nguni people) they migrated down the east cost of Africa, as part of the Bantu migrations. They eventually reached South Africa, around the 9th century AD. There, a small Zulu clan had been formed. In the early 1800's the Zulu warrior and King Shaka KaSenzangakhona, united the tribes in to a kingdom. In 1879, the Anglo-Zulu War began, as the result of the Zulu king at the time, king Cetshwayo. He was refusing to accept British authority and demands to disband his army. The Zulu people would continue to have confrontations with the British throughout 1879. The British would eventually win on July 4th, 1879.

  5. ZULU RELIGION • Many are Christians • Muthi- a substance eaten for spiritual purposes that can be positive of negative. (White and Black) • White- Accepted by society, the white Muthi is believed to be able to heal, therefore it is used for positive reasons.😃 • Black- Not accepted by society, the black Muthi is believed to make people sick or cause them grief, therefore it is used for negative reasons. Those who used black Muthi, are considered witches to the society.😡⚠

  6. FOLKLORE • The Zulu people believe strongly in in ancestral spirits, they believe in a long life after death. • The Creator did not think the people should die. He therefore called for a chameleon, and said, "Chameleon,I am sending you to the people, tell them that they are not to die." Although the chameleon was very slows, the creator didn't mind. However after walking a long distance, the chameleon spotted some wild berries and decided to stop and have some. It told itself that the creator wouldn't see. Unfortunately the Creator saw, and became very angry, so he called a lizard. He told the lizard to go tell the people that the are to die. The lizard sped off, passed the chameleon on the way, and gave the message to the people. The chameleon eventually arrived, breathing heavily, and gave the people the message. The people were very angry, they yelled, "Why did you waste time? We already received the message from the lizard." • Thus the elderly are considered sacred and are always respected.
