  7. How many opportunities you have to practice? CC united players are eligible to practice with the teams at the level above if they fulfill their team obligation. To do so contact yours and the coach above Players that work hard in practice and games for their team and have relevant ability may gain Opportunities to play games on teams at a higher level

  11. Here is what we want to see The way we used to build teams • The top team is doing fine. But… • We have not created a competitive 2nd or 3rd team. • There is little chance going forward for players on 2nd-4th teams of ever reaching the top team. • The 2nd-4th teams are not as competitive as we would like. • The top team is still doing fine. But… • We now have a very competitive C2 team. • Many team 2 players will challenge for top team spots. • The 3rd team is now potentially a competitive C2 team • There is an achievable path through small steps from the 4th team all the way to the top team. AbiLIty Level

So how do we get there? • By U12 the teams are positioned in the way we want to reach our U13 goal. • We want to work U9-U11 to have a top team already in C1 or good enough to earn Classic 1 at U13 • We also want to provide opportunities and good coaching at the C2/3 level at this age group as well.

  13. So how do we get there? • U11 offers C1-C3 levels of play. • As we will be strong at this age we look to give players the freedom to learn how to play beyond the individual. Focusing on things like consistent playing out of trouble and multiple player attacks that will allow us to be stronger in the future • This will develop higher competition for the fielding of a C1 or C1 challenging team at U12. • Through increased age group competition the second U12 team should be a strong or at least a competitive C2 team. • From the lower teams, we will develop sufficient players for a strong C3 or competitive C2 team.

  14. So how do we get there? • U9 and U10 teams mirror our U11 goal. • Two top teams and two lower teams at U11 sets up for teams at all three levels (C1/C2/C3) at U12 • U9 and U10 team formation will start us down this road.

The importance of defining a difference in how players approach the game Player 1 Recreational player • Gains enjoyment from Social time • Enjoys participation • May play due to influences outside of soccer • Limited motivation to improve • Recognizes that all should play • Results and performance are lost as soon as the treats are out The one flaw in focusing solely on this communities soccer development is that in each age group of the traveling program players are different in their approach to soccer

The importance of defining a difference in how players approach the game Player 3 Competitive traveling player • Has a high level of attendance • Gains enjoyment from competition • Goal oriented • Better understanding of the game • Shows an interest in practicing outside of team practice time • Practices at a higher level of intensity • May show a higher level of frustration with team/individual failures • Recognizes performance but wants to win more over play well • Recognizes that playing time is a reflection of work rate • Recognizes good/indifferent coaching and responds to it

The importance of defining a difference in how players approach the game Player 2 Traveling player with a recreational mentality • If Soccer conflicts will always choose the alternative • Has a 50-75% attendance • Enjoys playing • Work full-out in practice 50-75% of the time • Can get excited when team is doing well and may increase work rate • Has some social connections • Has some aspirations of developing as a team and player • Takes defeats and 1v1 competition loss very lightly

Player effort affects opportunity to play • It is the goal of the traveling program to have more #3’s and some #2’s in the program • It is the secondary goal of the club to have all #2’s at the classic 3 level of play • Competitive soccer player- has an interest in the game, the competition and their development If a team achieves a high level of play with high training demands and has close to a 50/50 split with #2 and #3, then the only way to keep the #3’s interested in CC United is to move away from community players and have an open tryout

  20. Playing Time Playing time in the competitive program is earned, not guaranteed. If a player attends practices and demonstrates a high work rate, then that player is entitled to play. If a player cannot make practice it is THIER responsibility to let the coach know. CC United coaches do not look to develop a strong line up to win games. They will strive to develop the team, and the committed players within, to be as competitive as possible We will strive to win, not to win at all costs

  22. Very important The focus of a U9 and 10 coach is not to win all of your games. The focus is to get them comfortable with passing the ball in all directions and in all areas of the field

  23. Very important The focus of a U11 and 12 coach is not simply to win all of our games. The focus is to be competitive by creating a wide range of attacking play utilizing the clubs formation and to understand the concept of team defending

U9- shape making and risk taking • Getting the parents to understand why we play our formation • Getting the players to understand the boundaries • We will be one of a few top teams that has a shape geared to play rather than Just to win • Getting the players comfortable in passing backwards both to the keeper and in regular play • Getting the players comfortable in playing across the field instead of up and down • Introducing the back pass to the keeper

U13 – the real game • The team should be comfortable with the shape and 11 players on the field • The team should be able to zonal defend and press opponents close to their goal • The team should be able to overlap and change positions • The team should be comfortable passing back to the keeper • The team should be comfortable playing out of the defensive third • The players should recognize how the zones cover each other • The team should be able to attack as individuals and also with a series of passing and movement combinations • The team should be able to change the point of attack through either the midfield/forward/defending or goalkeeping positions • The teams should be able to change the speed of the game • The teams should be able to establish how 3rd player movement works • The team should be able to understand how to set an offside line • The team should start to analyze the opponents and alter pressure or be able to channel away • The two forwards should be able to combine with each other • The team should understand how to make space for another player

The Coach Expects • All players work hard in practice • All players notify me of any absence • All players are responsible for their own soccer equipment • That each player arrives up at least 30 minutes prior to games • That the players arrive at least 5 minutes early for practice • That all players and parents never question a referee’s decision • That if there is a problem on playing time, team issues or anything else that I am approached

  32. 2014 Tryouts Summer 2013 C1 players need to attend all three sessions: Session 1, Session 2 and the C1 session. C2 and C3 players will be invited by the Director of Coaching to attend the C1 tryout session. All C2 and C3 players attend both the Session 1 and 2 for next year’s age group. Goalkeepers need to attend the goalkeeper sessions in addition to their age group sessions.
