Waves of Change--- The Education Beyond Books “ Waves of Change Programme aims at making the nation aware of the quality and the kind of educational & institutional reforms as well as the entire gamut of educational initiatives taken up by CBSE in recent times at the behest of Ministry of Human Resource Development. It gives an impetus to the all round development of the school children by making them aware of the changing aspects of education and new employment and entrepreneurship vistas. WOC highlights “ The Education Beyond Books” and celebrates excellence through scholastic and co- scholastic learning's and shaping of the life skills.

A One - Week (From 10.10.12 to 17.10.12) Mammoth Happening led by CBSE in collaboration with GIZ 5 Thematic Areas – Sanitation is the compulsory Theme! Nationwide Launch of WOC on 4th. October 2012 Grand Closing Ceremony on 19thDecember 2012 Talent Hunt to be completed by February 2013

  3. WAVES OF CHANGE--- The Education Beyond Books PARTICIPATION :- The Event WOC would take place from 10.10.12 to 17.10.12 and the Launching Ceremony is on 04. 10.12 at VigyanBhawan, New Delhi. Participation is open for all the schools under any examination board. The following thematic areas have been selected in which schools can participate. Each Thematic Area has a particular date for participation. • Theme 1 : Health , Wellness & Sanitation • Theme 2 : CCE-Scholastic and Co-Scholastic Areas • Theme 3 : Environment, Culture & Heritage • Theme 4 : Competitive Sports • Theme 5 : Ideas & Innovations Theme 1 is compulsory and from the remaining 4 themes the schools can participate in any theme or a few of them or in all the Themes.

WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books • Why this Mega Event?? • A number of Initiatives, Reforms and Innovations have been effectuated in the field of school education and examination system under CBSE by MoHRD making it more relevant and contemporary. • All these efforts need to be internalized by the students, teachers, parents and need to be externalized in order to get imprinted in the general public’s psychethrough special efforts. • For this a massive Nation wide activity oriented awareness generation programme focusing on the new vistas of education in India is required. • WOC Aims precisely at this.

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books WOC : Recognition of the Schools • ATR ( Action Taken Report) for selected 1000 schools on web--- Best ATR to be awarded • All Participating Schools’ names are on web • Photos on web • Best 500 performers are to be specially mentioned on the website • School’s WOC Committee can Mail to the designated nodal officers in the CBSE CELL--- for certificates, guidance etc. and about any queries regarding waves of change & its components • Theme wise stimulation of the schools and putting them to some useful action is expected to create flutter in the society and public in general some interest about school sanitation • A school can take up one or several or on all the themes but The Theme 1 is a compulsory theme.

  14. WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books What are the First things to be done by the participating school? (I) • The schools can get registered for the WOC by getting online sanitation rating done for their school at the www.schoolsanitation.com and get a UIN( unique ID number) ID. This UIN – ID is to be quoted for the entries. • This UIN to be quoted in all the references. • Each participating school will constitute two types of committees: • One, at the Supervisory level ( called WOC Management Committee ) and another at the Theme level ( One for each Theme and will be called the Thematic Task Force for that theme for example Health , Wellness & Sanitation Theme. (called Theme 1) and so on and so forth. • So there could be 5 Thematic Task Forces & One School level WOC Management Committee

  15. WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books What are the First things to be done by the participating school? (II) A 15 members WOC Committee in each school comprising of Students, Teachers & Staff is to be formed by each school for the supervision of the entire programme. After constituting the WOC Committee, the school will inform the CBSE Cell. This Committee at the end of the programme would submit an ATR ( Action Taken Report) in respect of the Theme 1 and also about the other Themes chosen by the school. This Report would be very important as on the basis of their report the performance will be evaluated. There would be a format for submitting the report and it has to be submitted online or by way of CD. No hard copies would be accepted.

WAVES OF CHANGE--- The Education Beyond Books Guiding Principles For Constituting Thematic Task Force (TTF) Formation of TTF( Thematic Task Force) for each theme • Schools to form a 20 member TTF for each Theme in which they are participating ,comprising of 10 students ,5 teachers and 5 support staff who have excelled in the desired field/ have genuine interest in the proposed thematic areas • They will make an broad action plan for the designated Thematic day and also for the year as prescribed by the CBSE--NIESBUD --GIZ (CNG) Sanitation & Knowledge Development Cell.

WAVES OF CHANGE--- The Education Beyond Books • Schools to Design & Implement Action Plan for each Theme with the parameters sent by CNGSKD Cell ( CBSE Cell) • Support Document to be issued by CBSE showing Compulsory and Optional Activities to be performed. • Schools to execute the Activity Plan as sent by the CNG- SAKD Cell • Online & electronic Reporting & Monitoring Mechanism of the Event

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books • WOC School Management Committee Coding • Each school will be assigned a UIN ( Unique Identity Number) once they do online rating of themselves for sanitation status which they would be quoting while submitting their reports and for any correspondence and queries. • Designated Tasks--- Work for suggested tasks • A series of possible activities has been given in the slides which school may follow. A separate list would also be circulate for the benefit of the schools so that they can plan well in advance. • Triggering the Tasks • Each school will have its own way of beginning or triggering the thematic day (for e.g. they may call some local leader or a body of parents or a group of Philanthrope or it can also be done at the level of principal or vice principal as per the convenience of the school ) • Each day will be dedicated by the schools to at least one unsung / local /national hero (of their choice) who had dedicated his life for the cause of humanity. • CBSE Cell would provide some of the such names along with their brief biographical sketch.

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 1: Health, Wellness and Sanitation (I) Compulsory Activities :- Sanitation Task Force (STF) formation by each school : Lead to be taken by the Health & Wellness Clubs Declaration of School Sanitation Action Plan for the event as well as for the year along with clearly defined time line and its submission online to CBSE Perform the Compulsory activities on the Theme Day as prescribed by the CNG Sanitation & Knowledge Development Cell

WAVES OF CHANGE --- The Education Beyond Books Theme 1: Health, Wellness and Sanitation (II) • Online Sanitation Ratings • to be done by all participating schools to check if they are a “ Health Promoting School” • ULBs ( Urban Local Bodies i.e. municipalities) to Rate their Municipal Schools Online: A directive from the MoUD is required for the ULBs • Online Sanitation Ratings for the selected schools under the State Education Boards

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 1: Health Wellness and Sanitation (III) • Awareness Raising for Attitudinal & behavioural Change • Special thematic assemblies- Principal or designated teacher to brief the students about the Theme and School Sanitation Action Plan • Downloading the Sanitation Related Posters from the website and get them pasted at the appropriate places/ May get them distributed among the children • School Cleanliness Drive • Award (s) to Clean Class Rooms

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 1: Health Wellness and Sanitation (IV) • Schools will try to understand and introduce the following if possible, in their premises:- • Bio- Dynamic Waste Segregation • Taking steps for Water Conservation in Sanitation Practices • Waterless Urinals • Minimization of Water wastage through Cisterns • Water Harvesting Structures • Highlighting Sanitation Ambassadors in Indian History

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 1: Health Wellness and Sanitation (V ) • Schools can use a Few Technological Options • Waterless Urinals • Zero discharge System • Two booklets would be released during the launch of the Waves of Change Programme : • First Level Support Document on maintaining / improving the School Sanitation • Use of Kitchen Waste : Compost them and Grow Herbs • Factsheets : On Sanitation Status in certain school • GIZ ‘s latest up scaling of benchmarking • The Sanitation Scenario in certain Indian Schools

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 2 : CCE-Scholastic & Co-Scholastic Areas (VII) The Process: • Each school can send one entry for each sub-category. • The entry must be in the form of a video recording, written piece (for section 4 only) or photograph. Each entry must carry the name of the student, age, class, school and gender and the category under which the application in made (E.g. if the student is applying for Mime the entry should have the name 3.e.-Mime) • Each entry must adhere to the given criteria: Video must not be of more than 2 minutes (Formats to be defined and the weight of the file to be mentioned)(xx MB) OR not more than 5 photographs (total 1 MB) or 500 words • Each entry must carry an authentication/originality certificate that must be ratified by the school principal.

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 2 : CCE-Scholastic & Co-Scholastic Areas (VIII) Selection Schools can decide their criteria for each category and sent the entry (*submission of entries will be in the form of CDs( videos not more than two minutes) alternatively entries could be uploaded in the website www.schoolsanitation.com ) The schools can get registered for the WOC by getting online sanitation rating done for their school and get a UIN ID. This UIN – ID is to be quoted for the entries. First level screening is required especially for authenticity. (Visual/Applied art –actual piece will be called at an appropriate level) Panels of judges at two levels will be formed for each category. 125 Finalists will be called for actual performance at the final forum (selected categories will be called*) You tube uploads/ CBSE site / webcasting for the finalists ) Top 100 performers would be selected by a Jury of eminent experts. Winners will be awarded at a functionat a designated venue. Incentives/Awards and Rewards for the winners.

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 2 : CCE-Scholastic & Co-Scholastic Areas (IX) • Individual Students: A talented student who is not selected by the school can send an individual entry. BUT the entry must be certified through a recognized talent training institute/Academy/etc. OR be certified by the local councilor/MLA/M.P. /through the concerned school teacher

WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books Theme 3 : ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE & HERITAGE (I) THE SCHOOLS will :- • Constitute a Environment & Heritage Task Force to take up the activities Some suggestions:- • This Task Force to • find out some oldest / biggest trees in an around their school and take their girth at 1.37meters from the ground ( technically called “breast height), find their botanical name and put a board. Study their leaves , bark and fruits. • Make a trip to a heritage place in your city. Write about its real time condition and send it to us. • Plant trees in July and August. Grow winter flowers in the right season . Grow Herbs , Medicinal & Aromatic plants. • Prepare an inventory of trees in and around your school area in the given format.

WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books Theme 3 : ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE & HERITAGE (II) Creating CBSE Heritage : • Those schools who are more than 50 years old buildings can list themselves as CBSE heritage building. • > 100 years old: ASI should take a note (all to take steps) • = 100 • > 50 (CBSE) • = 50 (CBSE) • All they need to do is to write to CBSE along with their date of affiliation with it and the details of the building along with reasonable supporting documents. • List will be released and a tablet would be given for pasting in the building by CBSE. • Create Heritage Club in the school. Make a calendar of activities.

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Theme 3 : ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE & HERITAGE (III) Creation & Conservation of Green Spaces in the Schools Plantation of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants by school students– This can be done in August-September 2012 during rains. If the schools can do this year, fine or else at least plan for the next year rainy season. Release of Regio-Specific Booklets on 50 most interesting plants : The First Series on Natural Health Systems & India’s Natural Heritage The Books -Release during the launch of WOC Technical Cooperation would come from Government of MP : MFP- PARC & Silver ‘87 Booklets to be available online Booklets to be ready by August 2012

WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books Theme 3 : ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE & HERITAGE (IV) During the Launch : • Release of a booklet of Home Sparrow • Release of the Next Electronic Edition of the News Letter “ School Sparrow” • Schools to do project on Home Sparrow and take necessary action as advised by CBSE Cell for Saving the Home Sparrow in the Cities • Take steps to save the sparrow • Have you noticed any sparrow or bird • Try to take their photos and identify them • Declare one bird as your school bird/ one animal as your school bird/animal and write about it.

WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books Theme 3:ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE & HERITAGE (V) • Some Suggestions : • The schools can form a Nature / Wildlife Society • Tell us if you want to visit a jungle. We can get it arranged • Have you seen mongoose, etc or any other animal in/around your school apart from dogs? Note their names if not, try to take photo and send them to us. • Organize a wildlife/ trees photography competition in the school. • Three entries from each school will be uploaded on the website

WAVES OF CHANGE-- The Education Beyond Books Thematic Area 4: Competitive Sports (I) • Schools to form a Thematic Task Force as explained earlier for chalking up an implementation plan • National Talent Hunt in the Schools • The top 100 students in each of the following fields would be selected. • Schools are requested to send us video bytes online at the email : …… ( not more than two minutes)/photos of outstanding talent:- • Sports • Talented Players – Team sports (limited to 3 team sports per school: entries & names to be decided by schools : max 6 names) • Athlete tics & individual sports (max. 6 names per school) • Martial Arts (max. 2 names ) • Sports journalists & commentators (max. 1 entry each per school) • Process will remain the same as explained in the co-scholastic slides.

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Thematic Area- 5: Ideas & Innovations (I) • Schools to form a Thematic Task Force as explained earlier for chalking up an implementation plan Libraries for All • In order to enable the libraries to issue books ( including text books) to all the needy ones • Schools to rattle the conscience of their students for understanding the value of books so that they can :- • Voluntary Donate last years books • learn to keep their books in good condition • can also donate any other books of relevance which then could be collected by the Regional Offices of CBSE/or any other suitable agency • Inventory to be made by the Regional office of the CBSE/ or any other suitable agency • Awards to be given to leading schools

Waves of Change-- The Education Beyond Books Thematic Area- 5: Ideas & Innovations (II) • Facilitating & Promoting The Access To Primary And Secondary Education • Up to the Class VIII, the Right to Education supports the child and beyond that admission problems, drop outs due to various reasons emerge. Therefore the support to the initiatives for improving and creating opportunities for the children in the age group 6-14 years to complete primary education, and for children in the age group 14 years and above to complete secondary education up to grade 12 is very much essential • For this NIESBUD –CBSE GIZ would come up with viable options for talent scholarships and introduce “Earn while you Learn concept “ for the children above 14 years of age. • For primary classes it would be parents & guardians who will get that opportunity of being trained in the entrepreneurial skills • Rich & affluent student can sponsor the education of one child and for this they would be given the necessary support by the CBSE – GIZ – NIESBUD Cell in the form of guidance as a mentor. • The relevant guidelines would be issued the launch

WAVES OF CHANGE---- The Education Beyond Books Thematic Area- 5: Ideas & Innovations (III) • Providing real opportunities to excel to the Students , Teachers & the Schools in the different fields (over the years, CBSE has grown into an institution of excellence and under it a very talented pool of school students exists which need to be harnessed young by giving them due recognition. So WOC opens a new window for such differently talented students. ) • Promoting the entrepreneurial attitude as well as development & sharpening of skills in the individual areas of interest for the students thereby enhancing the possibilities of creating viable career options • Development of entrepreneurship skills and creating self-funding/earning scholarship opportunities for the school students
