  2. ABI Improvements • Better Temporal Resolution • Routine 5-minute imagery • 30-second imagery for RSO • Better Spatial Resolution • 500-m visible channel • 2-km IR channels • Better Spectral Resolution • From 5 to 16 bands • Greatly increases the number of possible products

  6. Summary • GOES-R and NPOESS provide some exciting areas for Severe Weather Research • With current POES data and numerical modeling, we can develop severe weather forecasting/nowcasting products which will be ready when GOES-R is launched
