  3. Introduction • Examined the feasibility to implement a tour company that caters to small groups of clients for overnight or day trips to out of the way place’s in Alaska while having a local guide accompany them

  4. Introduction • Researched the need for a new tour company focusing on three factors: • Lack of companies that will spend the time/effort with smaller groups for overnight trips to uncommon tourist attractions • Only large groups have their own tour guides • Tour companies only have premade tour packages?

  5. Criteria for Feasibility • Is there a need for a tour with a company that caters to small groups? • Would people like having their own personal tour guide? • Do tourists prefer a "premade packaged" tour or a specialized tours?

  6. Methods • Read peer reviewed published articles and books in the University of Anchorage Alaska (UAA) Consortium Library’s • Key words utilized for were: tourism, Alaska tourism, starting small businesses, tour companies, and Alaska trips. • Anchorage Dailey Newspaper

  7. Primary Research • Found over 200 articles on Alaska and the tourism industry. • Narrow down to what I thought would be the best articles that would support my feasibility project. • National Geographic Traveler devoted to Alaska and what there is to do in the state.

  8. Primary Research • Article “What Drives the Alaska Economy” which supported the Alaskan economy. • In 2001, Alaska was among the top four cruise destinations worldwide” (CLIA 2004). • tourism is a vital component of the Alaska economy. • Designed and distributed a survey to the Fall 2013 Technical Writing Course class that would further support my feasibility statement

  12. Conclusions • Alaska’s tourism industry contributes approximately $3.7 billion annually. • Tourism industry also employs approximately 45,000 people. • Survey, results showed: - People would like to have smaller groups that would enable the tour guide to cater to their needs more. - They would prefer a specialized package. - Showed what activities people enjoyed the most.

  13. Recommendations • We have concluded that we would need further research to see: • What equipment we would need. • We would also need to research the trip activities locations. • What the cost would be. • What additional equipment would be required.
