  2. Barriers to College and Career Success Lack of career awareness* Limited availability of science prerequisite courses: Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology High attrition rates in prerequisite courses* up to 60% Waiting lists/selection criteria*/TEAS Limited clinical placements Attrition in licensure/training programs Workforce retention

  3. (A few) Barriers defined… • College program awareness • County-wide training program inventory • Nursing program admission criteria • Attrition in pre-requisite courses • “Allied Health Skills”

  4. Project Goals Increase awareness of health career opportunities Improve science proficiency Strengthen post-secondary transitions

  5. How does this apply to you? Are you a: • middle school science instructor? • high school science instructor? • CTE/ROP instructor? • math, English, PE instructor? • college instructor? • administrator?

  6. Resources Bring rigor and career relevance to core science classes to support CTE pathways • High School • Medical Biology • Medical Chemistry • Anatomy and Physiology • Middle School • Medical Life Science • Medical Physical Science • Community College • Contextualized Health Pre-major general education sequence

  7. How can this fit with your Linked Learning Pathway?

  8. Our lab curriculum can be used to meet your D level lab science needs.

  9. Applying the labs to your classes • Labs are designed to be smoothly integrated into the Biology, Chemistry and Anatomy & Physiology UC a-g classes you are already teaching • Aligned with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards • The name on the class does not have to be changed as it is consistent with the curriculum you already teach • Use one or all of the labs – there is no minimum requirement

  10. Applying our labs to your classes • The curriculum is free to any teacher: www.haspi.org • The supplies needed are listed in the teacher guide and you can obtain the supplies as you normally would for your lab • Curriculum Lab Kits are available to purchase* if you plan to implement all of the labs for a subject.
