  1. ACTION VERBS In order to speak a language, you need to say what is happening, what people are doing, etc… You must learn your action verbs!

  5. In Spanish the verb in the infinitive (before you conjugate it) ends in either “ar”, “er”, or “ir”. In English a verb in the infinitive has “to” in front of it to study, to eat, to drive The “to” in Spanish is built in!!! I want to eat: Yo quiero comer

  6. How do we conjugate a verb? • Verbs ending in “ar” Hablar (to talk) Remove the ending and add the specific subject endings Yo habl o Nosotros habl amos Tú habl as Ustedes habl an Él/Ella/ Usted habl a Ellos/ Ellas habl an

  7. More regular verbs... • Verbs ending in “er” and “ir” • Leer (to read) or escribir (to write) • Yo le o Yo escrib o • Tú le es Tú escribes • Él/Ella/ Usted le e Él/Ella/Usted escribe • Nosotros le emos Nosotros escribimos • Ustedes le en Ustedes escrib en • Ellos/ Ellas le en Ellos escriben

Regular verbs with strange “yo” forms: • There are some regular verbs who have a different “yo” form. • Salir – yo salgo ( I go out) • Conducir – yo conduzco (I drive) • Conocer (a) – yo conozco (I know someone) • Saber – yo sé (I know something) • Dar – yo doy ( I give) • Traer- yo traigo ( I bring) • Hacer – yo hago ( I do/make) • Poner – yo pongo ( I put/place) • Ver – yo veo ( to see) • Quia - Irregular verbs in Spanish

  9. The rest of the verb is conjugated like a regular verb: ie: saber(yo sé, tú sabes, él/ella/usted sabe, nosotros sabemos,ustedes saben, ellos/ellas saben) dar: (yo doy, tú das, él/ella/usted da, nosotros damos, ustedes dan, ellos/ellas dan)

  10. A practicar…. We drink milk. Nosotros tomamos leche. They drive fast. Ellos conducen rapido. Do you eat pizza? ¿Comes piza? I read every night. Yo leo todas las noches.

  12. There are other verbs who do not qualify as action verbs. Most of these are also irregular verbs. Irregular verbs need to be memorized! Ser, estar, ir, tener, poder are some verbs in this category Learn these verbs!!!

Irregular Verbs • Ser (yo soy, tú eres, él/ella/usted es, nosotros somos, ustedes son, ellos/ellas son) • Estar: (yo estoy, tú estas, él/ella/usted está, nosotros estamos, ustedes están, ellos/ellas están) • Ir (yo voy, tú vas, él/ella/usted va, nosotros vamos, ustedes van, ellos/ellas van) Quia - Sp2: Ser and Estar pop up.

  14. Tener (yo tengo, tú tienes, él/ella/usted tiene, nosotros tenemos, ustedes tienen, ellos/ellas tienen) • Poder (yo puedo, tú puedes, él/ella/usted puede, nosotros podemos, ustedes pueden, ellos/ellas pueden)
