The School for Children With Special Needs "Lyuben Karavelov" - Pernik The school is approximately 30 KM from the centre of Sofia • caters for 100 children ages between 8 and 18 • provides education for those with slight mental disabilities • Approximately 30 children remain at the school, most of which are orphans • The school is housed in one of the oldest kindergartens dating back many • decades and consequently is in need of improvement. There are 33 Friendly staff all waiting to give you a warm welcome to Bulgaria !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Previous projects The ethos of the charity is to try and ensure the improvements bring the maximum pleasure, so we try and make everything as colourful as possible A corridor outside the dormitories using Disney characters A dinning room giving the impression of being under water

  6. Work that is required Thebuilding needs work inside and out, so it is ideal for winter and summer projects. The dormitories as can be seen are very depressing and un-inviting Painting murals would make a tremendous difference If only corridors could cry........... The colours are very dark and depressing, simply painting in more pastel colours would make a world of difference

  7. And just in case we finish all that............ The floors and doors are in desperate need of repair We can improve the common room where the children relax, watch TV and play games

  8. ...........i did say there was a lot of work to be done For those that prefer sewing there are the cushions and covers for the worn out chairs in the common room The classrooms are no exception, it would be great to not only brighten the class rooms up but also to possibly hang posters The lobby also could do with brightening up

  9. And most importantly.......we help children who really need it !! Apart from the tasks, interacting with the children can really make a difference You never know......we might be able to raise a few smiles

  10. A social enterprise To help the children even more we like to establish a social enterprise, producing items such as silk scarves or table cloths The enterprises are open to all including the physically impaired The items being sold in places like our charity shop in Sofia All income is returned to the orphanages to benefit children PLUS………..the Children receive the chance to acquire a vocational skill
