  3. Contents • Introduction • Heliostats • Shading and Blocking • Solar Computation Program • Project Proposal • Project Requirements • Technologies Used • Flow Chart Diagram • User Interface Demo • Future Work • References

  4. Introduction • A Solar Power plant produces electricity by reflecting sunlight on to the central receiver • A solar thermal plant consists of mirror reflectors called heliostats

  5. Heliostats • They direct and concentratethe solar radiation onto a central receiver • Many parameters must be optimized, in the design of a solar thermal plant • The parameters are • Location • Shading and • Blocking

  6. Shading and Blocking • Shading occurs when a heliostat casts its shadow on another heliostat located behind it • Blocking occurs when a heliostat in front of another heliostat, blocks the reflected suns energy on its way to the receiver

  7. Solar Computation Program • It produces a snapshot of shading and blocking of each heliostat • The design process includes analyses of data at different times and dates • Many executions are required for a solar thermal plant

  8. Project Proposal • Effectively store, retrieve and delete the output data of the Solar Computation Program • Retrieve the data by various key words • Program executed via a simple Graphical User Interface

  9. Project Requirements • Develop a Graphical User Interface • Store the output data from the Solar Computation Program to the database • Output data • OpenGI_Helio_DYN.txt • Results.xls • run_info.txt • NeighborDistances.txt • dataSAR.txt

  10. Project Requirements • Retrieve a data set from the database by providing the field identifiers • Retrieve multiple sets of data by the user request • Display the statistics on the sets in storage • Delete sets from storage by providing the field identifier

  11. Project Requirements • Prevent duplicate entries in the database • Facilitate two user interaction with the database

  12. Technologies Used • C#.NET • SQL Server 2005 • Windows XP/Vista • Visual Studio 2005

  13. Start Open the application A Q R D Select the insert page Selects an input directory Verifies whether the folder has the read permission YES No Ready to access the files You cant access files Check-in Verifies if SC sets exists in the folder No Shows an acknowledgement that one set already exists YES Copy into the database Check-in successful

  14. A Select output directory Verifies whether it has write permission YES NO Ready to accept queries Not ready to accept any queries

  15. Q Browse Select one of the options Search the database for the value entered in the selected option NO Data not found YES Successful Information about the sets Select a set Retrieve Re-write data into the output folder Done

  16. R Statistics Displays general statistics OK Close window

  17. D Browse Select field identifier YES NO Search Successful No data found Information about the sets Select a set Delete Warning message Remove permanently Done Closes window End

  18. User interface Demo DEMO

  19. Future Work • UI Enhancements - In each page there are some functionalities which have to be implemented. - Implement multiple user interaction modules which is still under documentation. - Implement the On_Click Events in few pages.

  20. Future Work • Questions? • Data Base Design and Implementation • - Data modeling using UML class diagrams • - Rough Database design • - Restructuring and refinement of the data accordingly • Integrate the User Interface with the data base to • provide complete functionality to our application
