  1. Thermal Solar Specialization Pr Pierre Neveu Dr Quentin Falcoz

  2. University Campus General info and location • ST specialization supervised by UPVD and teachers from PROMES (Process Materials and Solar Energy) Laboratory • PROMES laboratory located in the south of France : • Font Romeu-Odeillo site in the Pyrenees mountains (Solar Furnace) • UPVD site in Perpignan Odeillo Odeillo Perpignan Solarfurnace Lowtemperaturesolarplatform

  3. Agenda of the « Solar Thermal » specialization • Start the 17th of February in Perpignan (UPVD) • 1 week in Perpignan • Accommodation in hotel, paid by UPVD • Registration, administrative procedure in UPVD • Labs and courses on « low T » modules • 1 free week • Transfer to Font Romeu-Odeillo • Students must find and rent an apartment (see Eurec website, contact : quentin.falcoz@promes.cnrs.fr) • 14/15 weeks in Font Romeu-Odeillo • End at the beginning of June

  4. Contents of the « Solar Thermal » specialization prerequisite: basics in thermal transfer, fluid mechanics and energetics Formation divided into 4 modules, modules are composed of 30 h blocks : • Fundamentals 60 h • Radiative heat transfer • Coupled heat and mass transfer • Low Temperature 60 h • Solar collectors • Solar conversion (heating, cooling, power) • High Temperature 90 h • Concentrating system and receiver • Solar Plants • Solar fuels • Thermal Storage 30 h • Very innovative formation with a unique focus on the CSP technologies • Multidisciplinary skills : optics, thermal transfer, materials science, thermodynamics, energetics,… • Unique skills in system simulation (work with industrial softwares and numerical tools dedicated to CSP design and simulation) • Experience on unique solar facilities • Solar facilities available

  5. Solar facilities Low T : Solar collectors and solar cooling/heating plant in Perpignan Solar collector test bench Solar cooling plants High T : Medium Size Solar facilities in Font Romeu-Odeillo Solar chemical reactor for solar fuels production(1 kW) Medium size solar furnaces (1 -1.5 kW)

  6. Solar facilities High T : Large Size Solar facilities in Font Romeu-Odeillo Big solar furnace (1 MW) Themis solar tower (5 MW) In progress: Construction of a parabolic trough including a module dedicated to ST formation Dish parabola (50 kW)

  7. Social life Students are fully integrated into the social life of the laboratory Others activities They can enjoyed our everyday-life in the Pyrenees Mountains by skiing, hiking or visiting the seaside. They have their own lounge room for studying breaks They can have lunch in the lab staff restaurant

  8. Merci !

  9. Job perspectives Previsions of the International Energy Agency are very hopeful for CSP sector Growth of CSP production all over the world • CSP is not the only sector after ST specialization : • Building • Process heat • Desalination • Solar Fuels
