  2. Sydney • the capital of the state of New West • 4,6 millions people- are called Sydneysiders. • It’s on Australia's south east coast- Tasman sea

  3. Sydney ranks high in the world cities- big sport events – the British Empire game 1938, summer Olympic 2000

  4. Sydney has many state parts: • CBD Central Business District Sydney's heart, great shopping malls, hotels and other venues. • Chinatown-Sydney's original population in the early 1900s, many were vegetable growers and traders.

  5. Canberra • The capital of Australia. • Located near the Brindabella Rangers. • The urban environs of the city straddle the Ginninderra plain, Morongo plain, the Limestone plain, and the Tuggeranong plain.

  6. Canberra has a relatively dry continental climate with warm to hot summers and cool to cold winters. • Lowest recorded minimum temperature was −10 ° on 11 July 1971.

  7. Darwin • Population in the city is about 95 200 inhabitants. • Located very close to Clearance in the Timor lake. • The capital in Northern territory which is a big part of Australia. • Under the Second World War Darwin was bombed by a Japanese air force.

  8. Agricultural, sheep care and mining are the most important incomes in Darwin. • In Northern territory are these states included: New South Wales ,Queensland ,South Australia ,Tasmanian ,Victoria and Western Australia. • The city is named after the British nature scientist Charles Darwin.

  9. PerthIntroduction • Capital of Western Australia. • Fourth most populous city in Australia 2012 – 1,3 million people. • Founded 1829 by Captain James Stirling. • Gained city status 1856. • Mediterranean climate – hot and dry summers, wet and mild winters.

  10. PerthGeography • Swan River named after the native black swans in 1697 by Willem de Vlamingh. • Willem de Vlamingh – captain of the Dutch expedition that made the first European sighting of the area. • Swan River = Debarl Yerrigan.

  11. PerthGeography • Originally built on freshwater wetlands. • The city centre and most of the suburbs – located on the Swan Costal Plain which lies between the Darling Scrap and the Indian Ocean.

  12. PerthHistory • Inhabited by the Whadjuk Noongar people 40000 years ago. • Occupied the southwest corner of Western Australia. • Lived as hunters and gatherers. • The area was called Boorloo by the Aboriginals living there in 1827.

  13. PerthHistory • First European sighting of the area – Captain Willem de Vlamingh and crew 10 January 1697. • 1697-1829 – subsequent sightings made by other Europeans as well. • Vlamingh considered the area inhospitable and unsuitable for agriculture.

PerthHistory • Founded in 1829 by Captain James Stirling and named Perth after Perth in Scotland in the honor of Sir George Murray. • Sir George Murray = born in Perth, Scotland, was Secretary of State for the Colonies and member of Perthshire in the British House of Commonsin 1829. • Queen Victoria announced the city status of Perth in 1856.
