  1. Youth Bible Study #16 July 23, 2020

  2. 22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Manattested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— 23 Him, being delivered by the determined purposeand foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. Acts 2:22-24

  3. Dei-cide: Who Did It?

  4. Did you think that you were right to blame Him? Have you ever blamed God for something?

  5. Who are the Men of Israel? 5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven… 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs...” Acts 2:5, 9-11

  6. What did they witness? Healing from incurable diseases Water being turned into wine Demons being removed Thousands being fed The dead coming back to life

  7. What did the Jews witness? Hatred: Egypt, Assyria, Neo-Babylonia, Persia, and Greece Warriors: Joshua, the Judges, the kings Sicarii = Jewish assassins who targeted Roman politicians Barabbas = possible member of the Sicarii

  8. What did the Romans witness? Emperors needed to be worshipped People who did not worship needed to die Anyone that took attention away from the Empire was a threat to it Pontius Pilate needed to get rid of the “King of the Jews”

  9. What did Both Sides Witness? 36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”… 39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” Luke 23:36-37, 39

  10. What did the Other “Robber” witness? 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” Luke 23:40-42

  11. What was the purpose behind it all? Expose the horrifying nature of our lives without God

  12. 23 for all have sinnedand fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in ChristJesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sinsthat were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3:23-26 Why did it have to happen?

  13. We all took a part in making God suffer… We had to face our worst nature to see that we need the Messiah… 23 forall have sinnedandfall short of the glory of God, 24 beingjustified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in ChristJesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, throughfaith, todemonstrate His righteousness, because inHis forbearance God had passed over the sinsthat were previously committed, 26 todemonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. God doesn’t forget your sins; He purposely ignores it because His Son justifies you… The blood needed to be shed so that we can be forgiven…

  14. Have you ever blamed God for something? Whatever you think He did to you, you did to Him first

  15. Are you right to blame Him? If so, He is right to blame you for all your sins. Is that what you want?

  16. “it was not possible that He should be held by it” 8Lay your hand on him; Remember the battle—Never do it again!9 Indeed, any hope of overcoming him is false;Shall one not be overwhelmed at the sight of him?10 No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up.Who then is able to stand against Me?11Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him?Everything under heaven is Mine. Job 41:8-11

  17. Conclusion • Everyone had a reason to want to crucify Jesus. The crucifixion showed the horrifying side of lives without God • When we sin, it’s like we’re all guilty of deicide… • It’s not time to blame God for your problems; it’s time to go to Him so that He can help you overcome them
