Transfer in process: • LINKO - continuing education for creatives Central Finland -> Maribor (completed) • Crazy Town Central Finland -> Maribor, Upper Austria • Green Workshop Wendland Lüchow-Danneneberg, Germany -> East Flanders, Central Finland • (Miha Pogacnik – solving business problems with art Maribor, Slovenia -> Finland Arts in Business – Opening hearts and minds event 3.12.2012 at 10–13 Helsinki Music Centre)

What is Crazy Town? • Business and innovation community for small KIBS companies and entrepreneurs • The oldest entrepreneur community in Finland • Privately funded – but customers mainly from public sector, e.g. HEIs and other institutions dealing with regional development • It’s for entrepreneurs who want to: ... use the network as one of their main marketing tool ... develop their business together with other entrepreneurs ... get good working environment in reasonable price ... get energy from other people

Crazy Town Capital(s) • Human capital: experience, education, skills, knowledge, ideas • Social capital: relationships, network of contacts, friends • Positive psychological capital: confidence, hope, optimism, resilience … instead of traditional economic capital: financing, tangible assets (places, equipment, patents, data)

  7. Crazy Town Ideology • Culture instead of institution • Peer-to-peer coaching • Enthusiasm, pathological optimism, passion • Shared values and visions • Brain industrial entrepreneurs • Dreaming • Not doing alone • Learning together, peer support

Crazy Town tools for business & competence development • CT Town meeting, 3 times / year (36 h intensive training & workshop * 3 = 108 h) • CT Coffeebreak, once a week, 1 hour (40 h) • Other open forums, (20h) • Development discussion, 12 h / year. • Working and learning together, project teams may include people from 2-5 companies • CT web, blog, twitter, intranet and discussion forum for CT members = members get 180 h/year = 22,5 days/year of facilitated learning forums + unofficial peer-support and ideas on daily basis

How to transfer enthusiasm, pathological optimism and passion? • full-day workshop at Crazy Town for CREA.RE partners • participants from Upper Austria (CREATIVE REGION LINZ & UPPER AUSTRIA) and Maribor (Maribor Development Agency) • check-in for expectations • detailed presentation of Crazy Town and its working methods • discussions with individual Crazy Town companies

  11. After the workshop participating partners made - detailed analysis of general expressions - feasibility analysis (challenges, possibilities in own region) - implementation plan for transfer

Upper Austria: Operator: CREATIVE REGION LINZ & UPPER AUSTRIA GMBH • offices in a huge industrial complex (until 2009 Tobacco Factory) • part of the former Tobacco Factory shall be converted into a Co-Working- and Office Space for creative businesses • space shall be managed by CREATIVE REGION LINZ & UPPER AUSTRIA GMBH • study visit to Crazy Town brought invaluable data on how to establish and run such a space • from July 2013 onwards: CREATIVE REGION LINZ & UPPER AUSTRIA GMBH will again get in touch with Crazy Town to get assistance in questions of fine-tuning the establishment and marketing of the space

  13. Maribor: • What to transfer? The state of mind: cooperation, (financial) independence, trust Business orientation: ”create the best place for ourselves to work at and to develop our business” • By setting up a test group MAKE IT WORK! “Owning 100% of an idea that is not implemented into practice is less than owning 10% of an idea that produces revenue”
