  1. Fracture toughness of unirradiated Beryllium versus test temperature • Differing grades of Be were tested (CIP-HIP* by Barker et al; VHP**and HIP* for S-200-F and S-65-H by Moons et al (*HIP- hot isostatic pressed; **VHP- vacuum hot pressed) • The Be compositions varied from 0.5% to 1.6% in BeO content. • All Be grades exhibited the same toughness behaviour. • Fracture toughness was ~11 MPa.m1/2 at test temperatures below ~200oC but increased as the temperature was raised above ~200oC. • Prior aging treatments in the range 185 - 600oC did not affect the toughness.

  2. Degradation of Beryllium fracture toughness with irradiation dose • Neutron irradiations were performed at 200, 230, 350, 435 and 600oC. • Irradiation degraded the fracture toughness at all testing temperatures. • Irradiation and testing <230oC produced the lowest fracture toughness values of ~7 MPa.m1/2. • Irradiation at 435oC or 600oC gave the smallest toughness degradations.
