Network Signalling (4) • Provision of Ethernet-Service over SDH with bandwidth adjustment (New SDH: GFP, LCAS, VC). • GFP: Generic Framing Procedure(ITU-T G.7042), method to transport data packets (e.g. Ethernet) over SDH • LCAS: Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme(ITU-T G.7041), dynamical bandwidth adjustment for SDH-links (variable VC4-container) • Virtual Concatenation (VC) instead of Continuous Concatenation (CC): VC4-Container may use different ways in the transport network • First New-SDH-Results • Basic tests/interworking between Alcatel-CC-1678, Siemens-CC-hiT7070 and ADVA-GE-MUX-1500 successful • LCAS tests in 4Q 2005 Heanet, November 2005 P.Kaufmann/DFN

Project Goal Middleware • Implementation of an operational environment for PC-cluster based on UNICORE • UNICORE supports the operation of a Compute-Grid • Interoperability with Globus-toolkit and compatibility with OGSA (Open Grid Services Architecture) is planned • Development / Portation of missing components • Development of a Meta-Scheduler based on Global Grid Forum Standards (Grid Resource Allocation Agreement Protocol) • Portation of MetaMPI and integration in UNICORE • Adaptation/upgrading of local tools to connect and analyse distributed applications • Development of high-performance parallel-I/O-interfaces (main memory, file server) Heanet, November 2005 P.Kaufmann/DFN

International Aspects • DFN participates in EGEE (Enabling Grids for e-science in Europe) • international Grid-Infrastructure based on existing networks • „VIOLA-Participation“ (DFN, TSI, Uni Erlangen) in FP6-projects: • GN2 - Geant2 • MUPBED - Multi-Partner European Testbeds for Research Networking • The testbed VIOLA forms the national base to contribute successfully to international projects • Interested for cooperation with similar projects/activities in Europe and elsewhere Heanet, November 2005 P.Kaufmann/DFN

Status (1) • Testbed implementation was finished early 2005: • circuits are connected (including connection to G-WIN/GEANT) • equipment is installed; • network management is operational • Work items of „Transport & Signalling“ have been started: • I-NNI: Available for Siemens-CC-hiT7070 • E-NNI: Available for Alcatel-CC-1678 and Sycamore-CC-SN16000 • E-NNI interoperability tests between Alcatel & Sycamore • UNI-N 1.0 R2: Available for Alcatel-CC-1678 • GFP/LCAS-Tests between Alcatel-1678 & Siemens-hiT7070 • E2E: Specification of user interface & design of reservation system Heanet, November 2005 P.Kaufmann/DFN

Status (2) • L2-Test/Operation: • VLL/VPLS interoperability tests with Alcatel & Riverstone: OK • H-VPLS interoperability tests with Alcatel & Riverstone: Some problems • Initial version of middleware is deployed, Integration of new middleware components in progress • Application projects have finished preparatory work • First “runs” over the network have been made Applications are beginning to stress network & middleware.
