  3. Rules Enter the library quietly. Check-in books and place them on the correct cart. Choose a book in a timely manner. Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. Don’t touch the aquarium. Remain quiet when standing in line to check in or out books.

  4. Consequences Students having inappropriate behavior will have their barcode taken by the staff and sent back to class without a book.

  5. Checking Out Checking out means you are going OUT of the library with your book. It is what you do when you want to take the book with you. Scan your barcode 1st Scan your books 2nd. Listen for a small beep.

  6. Checking In Checking In is what you do when you are bringing the book IN the library. You check in a book when you have read it and took a quiz on it. Scan your BOOK ONLY. Listen for a small beep.

  7. Choosing a Book • Always use a place saver! • Place the book on the shelf the correct way. • Never lay a book on top of the shelf.

  8. A.R. Levels • Look at your barcode card to see which levels you can check out. • Look on the spine of the book to make sure it is right for you!

  9. Colors • Pink: 0.1-0.9 • Gray: 1.0-1.9 • Blue: 2.0-2.9 • Green: 3.0-3.9 • Red: 4.0-4.9 • White: 5.0-5.9 • Yellow: 6.0 & up

  11. Reading Certifications Achieve reading certifications by reading books and making good grades on each quiz. Bring certificates to the library to receive a prize and have your name announced the next morning.

  14. Fiction • Chapter books • Few pictures • Worth more points • Call number begins with FIC

  15. Nonfiction • Real • Also called number books • Call number begins with 3 numbers • Separated by subject (Dewey Decimal System)

  16. Biography • True stories about a person • Call number begins with B

  17. Free Reads and Magazines • NO AR QUIZ! • Earn the right to check them out from your teacher.

  18. Lost or Damaged Books • If you lose your book, you will have to pay for it. • If you get your book wet or tear it, you will have to pay for it. • Can’t get books until you pay.

  19. Taking Good Care of Books • Be gentle with books. • Don’t force them onto a shelf. • Hug your book when you are walking. • Don’t put your book around food or drinks. • Use a bookmark.

  20. Using Computers • 2nd-4th grades are allowed to search on Destiny. • Do not play or waste time on the computer. • Use paper and pencils to write down the book’s call number.
