2. Egypt flag The first national flag of modern Egypt was established by a Royal Decree in 1923 when Egypt gained conditional independence from Great Britain in 1922. The colour was green with a white crescent and three stars in the middle. In 1958, a Presidential Decree established a new flag for the United Arab Republic which comprised a merger of Syria and Egypt. The new flag had three colours: red, white with 2 green stars and black. The flag was rectangular in shape and the width was one-third of its length. In 1972, the Law was amended to change the Egypt flag. The stars were removed from the flag and replaced by a golden hawk

The stones could be bought nearer to the pyramid building site by boat. What was is the name of the most famous pyramid? The Great Pyramid is the largest and most famous of the pyramids. It was built for the Pharaoh Khuf. It is over 140 metres high and took 20 years to build. What guards the pyramids? The Sphinx stands in front of all the pyramids in Giza. 5. Mummies Mummies are mostly in Egypt. It was very important to ancient Egyptian religious beliefs that the human body was preserved. A method of artificial preservation, called mummification was developed by the ancient Egyptians. Mummification was a complicated and lengthy process which lasted up to 70 days. What are mummies? A mummy is the body of a person (or an animal) that has been preserved after death. Who were the mummies? They were any Egyptian who could afford to pay for the expensive process of preserving their bodies for the afterlife. Why did the Egyptians make mummies? The Egyptians believed in life after death. They believed that they had to preserve their bodies so they could use them in the afterlife.

How do we know how to read hieroglyphics ? This writing was uncovered by the rosette stone Hieroglyphics uses small pictures which represent the sound of the object or an idea associated with the object. Where did the Ancient Egyptians use writing? They used writing in a variety of places including in scribe schools, on tomb walls, in fields, in temples, at war and in the government.
