  3. Introduction • Sir Winston Churchill, a political genius of the XX th century, prime minister of Britain more than once, a Nobel price winner, was one of the most tenacious adversary of the nazi party in Europe.

Chapter IEarly life • By his birth name, Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, was born on 30 november 1874, two months prematurely. • Independent and rebellious by nature, Churchill generally did poorly in school. • He was educated at three independent schools : St. George’s school , Brunswick school and Harrow school , the school where his military career began. • He first met his wife, Clementine Hozier, in 1904. After 4 years they met again and began a longtime romance. • They had 5 children: Diana, Randolph, Sarah, Marigold, Mary.

  5. Chapter IIPolitical career • Churchill’s political career began on his military service. After Churchill left Harrow in 1893, he applied to attend the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. It took three attempts before he passed the entrance exam. • Sir Winston never intend to follow a conventional career of promotion through army ranks, but to seek out all possible chances of military action and used his mother's and family influence in high society to arrange postings to active campaigns. • He’s first victory in parliament was won in 1900 Oldaham general elections for two seats.

Some of the most important acts Sir Winston Churchill did in his political career are: • In 1908, he set up the first minimum wages in Britain. • In the following year, he set up Labour Exchanges to help unemployed people find work. • He helped draft the first unemployment pension legislation, the National Insurance Act of 1911. • As a supporter of eugenics, he participated in the drafting of the Mental Deficiency Act 1913. • Churchill also assisted in passing the People's Budget becoming President of the Budget League.

  7. During both of the world wars, Sir Winston actions helped Britain in her fight against the germans. Some of this important actions are : • the development of the tank, which was financed from naval research funds. • creating the first tank corps. • giving important speeches on subjects like the dangers of Germany's rearmament, the need to rebuild the Royal Air Force and to create a Ministry of Defence , and so on . • maintaining vital and important relationships with the Soviet Union, United States and all the allies.

Because of his great importance in the state affairs during the World Wars, Sir Winston Churchill was awarded with a great number of medals and titles: Medals, honours and titles • The Queen's South Africa Medal • Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal • Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Netherlands Lion • Honorary Citizen of the United States • Nobel Prize in Literature • Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports

  9. Chapter IIINowadays impact • Many statues have been created in likeness and in honour of Churchill. Numerous buildings and squares have also been named in his honour. • Churchill has been included in numerous polls, mostly connected with greatness.

Conclusion In conclusion , looking back at the incredible accomplishments of a simple mortal , Sir Winston Churchill could be easily named “The Grandfather of Europe” An inspiration to us all , he was and will be a roll model for generations to come , a brilliant and loved leader who helped Britain and the world to become a better place.
