  3. Literacy Activities for Your Child • Sight Words • Rainbow Word Flash Cards • Sight Word Checkers • Letter Sounds • Spin a word • Roll a word • Writing • Journal • Reading • Reading Log • Library Summer Reading Program Info

  4. Sight Words • Rainbow Word Rings • Start with Violet words • Flash words… 3 second rule for mastery • Set a “reward goal” for each mastered color set • Record the date “mastered” on chart (I would love a copy of this) • Violet, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red

Sight Words • Checkers • Use slips of paper to place sight words on the shaded squares • Take turns moving diagonally on the shaded squares • Must be able to read the word in 3 seconds in order to move to that spot • Play like regular Checkers: jump/capture opponent’s pieces, King Me, etc. • Be creative with game pieces

  6. Letters and Sounds • Roll a word • Red = first letter • Yellow = second letter • Blue = third letter • Make as many words as you can • Record them on a sheet of paper as “real” or “make believe” words
