  2. TRIP- The Reason I Prosper • Came about on September 30, 2010 • Geared towards high school students who are unmotivated to stay or go to school • Targeted to students who are truant or skip class frequently • Students who have behavioral issues and learning disabilities

  3. What can TRIP offer? • Students will become mentees • Chance to join a program that will cater to their needs • Tutoring, anger management, and taking them outside of their comfort zone • Being their guardian by showing them love and support when their actual guardian isn’t there

  4. Components of TRIP • Students will have the opportunity to visit a college during the weekday • Students will get a great idea of campus life • Students will do field visits (ex. Cosmetology School, Nursing, Automotive, etc) • Students will be able to shadow a professional in their line of work

  5. Components of TRIP • TRIP will help students in areas that they are struggling in • TRIP’s students will attend their home school for half day attending the classes that they are doing exceptionally well in • The other half of the day they will attend another school district for classes that they are failing • Due to over crowdedness in the schools there are always one or two rooms available for students to use

  6. TRIP Application Process • Students will get information on entry into the program • Once accepted the student is responsible for getting their educational career back on track • TRIP staff will have the authority to link up with parole officers and truancy officers • TRIP staff will be able to keep up with the student’s performance

  7. Why is this program being created? • High drug use and crime • Attitude of students • Learning improvement • Environment

  8. TRIP’s School Day • Start school an hour later • Teenagers need about 8 hours of sleep to help them function properly • TRIP’s program will help curb tardiness to class • Students will meet with a TRIP sponsor daily

  9. TRIP’s Program Example • Students at PHS should be allowed to attend other tri-city area schools • Students will attend their home school then be transferred to another school to take classes they’re failing • Meet back at the home school were tutors will be on hand • Partnership with John Tyler Community College and Richard Bland College
