  6. First Day of School • Bus Tags for students as they enter • Lunch Money-you may put money on an account • Please tell your child’s teacher how he/she will get home. • Tennis shoes are needed every day. • Please label everything.

  8. Reminders • Please check your child’s red folder and book bag each day. • K-5 students all have a form of homework. • Please help your child to develop good homework habits at the beginning of the school year.

  9. Calendar • Check the PTA newsletter each month • You will get a yearly school schedule in the white packet in the fall. • There is a link to a Google calendar for the school on the school webpage. This calendar is updated as events are scheduled.

  10. After School Care • A.S.K. program sponsored by Roanoke County Parks and Recreation at Clearbrook • Country Bear • Honey Tree • Celebrate Kids • Wellington Academy • Child Care Network-picks up at Cave Spring Middle School or Penn Forest

  11. Custody Papers • The school needs papers of any custody agreements. • The school must follow whatever the court’s orders are. • Please remember that most parents maintain educational rights even with a loss of custody.

  12. Bus Route Information • Found in the newspaper the week before school starts. • On the County website • Available back to school night

  13. Transportation • Students should be standing at the bus stop 5 minutes prior to scheduled time. • Preschool, kindergarten and first grade students should be met at the bus stop each afternoon. If a parent is not at the stop, the bus will bring the child back to school. • When waiting for the bus, stay away from traffic and avoid roughhousing or other behavior that can lead to carelessness. Do not stray into the streets. • Line up away from the street as the school bus approaches.

  14. Use the handrail when stepping onto the bus. • When on the bus, find a seat and sit down. Loud taking or other noise can distract the bus driver and is not allowed. • Never put head, arms or hands out of the window. • Keep book bags out of the aisle because it is a tripping hazard. • No eating or drinking on the bus. • Keep all belongings in book bag • At your stop, wait for the bus to stop completely boarding before getting up from your seat

  15. If you cross the street always cross in front of the bus. Make sure the driver can see you. Wait for the driver to signal for you to cross. • If you think you have left something on the bus never come running back to the bus. Anything left on the bus will be kept for your child to retrieve the following day.

  16. Changes in Transportation • Please send any changes in transportation to the teacher. • If your child is going home with another student, we need a note from you and a note from that parent as well. • Transportation changes need to be called in by 1:00.

  17. School Hours • Official Student Hours: 7:50-2:20 • The building opens for students at 7:30 • It is best for students to arrive by 7:45

  18. Residency • Must live in the Clearbrook Elementary attendance zone or request permission to attend if you are a Roanoke County resident.

  19. Insurance • Optional accident policy information is in your child’s beginning of the year packet, please complete and send to the company of you are interested.

  20. Absences/Attendance • If your child is absent, please call the school by 8:15 to notify us of the absence. Otherwise, the school will try to contact you sometime during the day. • Attendance is a habit that starts early. • Students miss out if they are not at school. • The school starts looking at attendance as an issue after a child has missed 5 or more days or is tardy 5 or more days a semester. • Excessive tardies and early dismissals are also a violation of the attendance policy.

  21. Absences/Attendance • Students are considered tardy if they are not in the classroom by 7:50 a.m. • Students are recognized at various intervals for excellent attendance.

  23. Delayed Openings/Early Closings • One hour late 8:50 • Two hours late 9:50 • Students are sent home by their normal method unless you have indicated otherwise.

  24. Parties and Special Events • Please do not send party invitations to school unless you are inviting the whole class. • Fall, winter and Valentine’s Day parties • Working towards more nutritious party offerings.

  25. Car Riders Students must be picked up and dropped off on the Franklin Rd. side of the building. Please do not drop students off in the bus loading and unloading area before 7:50 a.m. Tardy students need to be accompanied by a parent into the building and signed in on the computer in the office.

  26. Conduct Code • No weapons or dangerous instruments or look alike toy guns • Bullying & bystander policy • Cell phones are not allowed to be on during the day. If taken into restroom, they will be taken from student. • Use of the computer • Last sheet in the code must be signed and returned to the school.

  27. Dismissal • For early pick-up, please come to the office to pick-up your child and sign them out. • The student will be called when you arrive.

  28. Dress Code • No profane, obscene or offensive messages. • No mention of cigarettes, beer or alcohol • Shirts must cover back and stomach • Straps must be a minimum of 3 “ in width • No halter tops or spaghetti straps or tube tops

  29. Homework • Teachers will discuss their grade level policies with you at Back to School Night on August 21, 2014. • Please see that your children complete homework assignments.

  30. Medication Policy • Administered by designated staff • Carried to school by an adult not a student • Prescription medication will only be administered with a doctor’s order and when correct forms are completed. • All medications are to be in the original container. • Medications are discarded if not picked up at the end of the school year.

  31. Pick Up by Others • All parents will be asked to fill out a sheet specifying who can pick their child up in an emergency. • Additions or deletions can be made to this sheet during the school year. • Only those on your approved pick up list will be allowed to pick a child up without a call or note from the parent. • ID may be required to be presented by those designated to pick a child up.

  32. Parking • Please do not park in the bus circle near the office. • This area is also a fire lane, so you could be ticketed. • Also, the first spot after the bus drop off area is reserved for the person who paid the most for it at the PTA’s auction, so please be respectful and do not park in that space.

  33. Pictures • School pictures will be taken twice a year. • Class pictures and a yearbook are sold in the spring. • Your purchase provides funds directly to the school.

  34. Safety Procedures • After 7:50, car rider doors will be locked. You must enter through the bus doors by signing in and waiting for the door to be opened. • Please be patient with the staff as no staff member has this as their only responsibility. • Visitors will wear a computer generated visitors’ badge • If you walk in the building, you must have a badge.
