  2. Before we start… • Turn off your cell phone, today and everyday!

  3. What is Math X? • No lecture • Work independently • Must have good study skills

  4. Attendance is mandatory • Those who miss the first class may be dropped • Sign in and out on STARS-Use your “W” number • Roll call may be taken • Good attendance(85%) is worth 15 points added to your final grade • You may be dropped if: • You miss 4consecutive hours or 6 cumulative hours • Never assume your instructor has dropped you!

  5. Homework • Not collected – but must be completed • Worth 20 additional points • Show work on ALL problems • Check your own answers • Review with instructor before testing • Find it on Blackboard (demonstration – next slide)

  14. Progress • Calendar / Target test and quiz dates • Fill them in now! • Self-paced • Must finish at least one module • Additional modules • If you do not finish by the semester end, you will receive a grade of “F” or “No Credit”

  17. Testing Tips • Make sure you have enough time • Verify that you were given the proper exam • Number your problems • Show all your work • Check your answers • Answers seem logical? • Rounding correct?

Testing Times for Exams • Complete exams in one sitting. • No time limit – but… • Tests are collected at closing time • Except Finals week – Limited time and day • Any time the Math Lab is open. • Except the last week of the semester and finals week when some restrictions may be put in place. • Check the Math X Lab Schedule.

Testing Room Rules • No cell phones or i-Pods or MP3s • No talking • No notes • No calculators • on Math 107 X Chap. 1, 2, 3 • on Math 71X Chap. 1, 2 • on Math 55X Chapter 10 quiz. • No graphing calculators or cell phone calculators Violation of any of these rules may result in a “0” on the test, which can not be dropped!

  20. Grading Policy • Only YOUR instructor can grade your tests and quizzes. • No grade – no retake or moving on to the next chapter • Passing grade is 84% • Move to next chapter • Below 84% is NON-PASSING • Must retake • Three tries to pass • Averaged in • My personal grading policy is…

Final Exams • Must pass All chapter tests before taking final exam • May be taken only once • Can be taken any time after all chapters are passed • Should be taken within one week of completing chapter exams • During Finals Week, must be taken only during your assigned time • The Final Exam counts DOUBLE • Write down your final exam Date and time • No chapter tests may be taken during the Final Exam Week!!

  22. Letter Grades: A = 92 -100 B = 84 - 91 C = 76 - 83 D = 68 - 75 F = 0 - 67 Credit/No credit: Credit = 76-100 No Credit = 0-75 Grade Cutoffs and Grade Mode

Registration Issues • Adding • NGR date is: September 4 (in Person) • W date is: Nov. 6 • Credit/no creditSeptember 18 • Adding additional modules • Repeating a module • A grade of less than “C” or “No Credit” indicates you have not mastered the material and • Requires you to repeat the entire module before going on to the next module.

  28. Special Registration Issues- (cont.) Per Las Positas College policy as stated in the college catalog: • students are responsible for officially withdrawing from classes by the deadline date listed in the current Class Schedule. • There is no automatic withdrawal process. • Failure to follow the proper withdrawal procedures may result in a grade of “F”. • The instructor may drop students who miss the first meeting of a course. • An instructor may initiate a drop if the student is absent for a total of four (4) consecutive or six (6) cumulative instructional hours and/or two (2) consecutive weeks of instruction.

MATH X LAB HOURS Fall 2009 August 17 – December 12 Monday, Wednesday 8:30 am - 3:25 pm and 5:00 pm - 9:45 pm (Closes at 1:15 pm and reopens at 5:00 pm until Aug 31) Tuesday, Thursday 8:30 am – 3:45 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:15 pm Note: There are no Friday classes. Saturday 8:00 am – 12:50 pm Closed on Sundays and Holidays. Subject to change as needed. *Important Days* NGR – Sep 4 (in-person) **Please revise your syllabus W-day – Nov. 6 (For the Late Start Class – Please ask your instructor or check LPC website.)
