  2. Think about it! • How do you choose between eating a hamburger for lunch or a salad? • How do you decide if your going to have a candy bar or an apple for a snack?

  3. Make a list • On a separate piece of paper make a list of the foods you ate yesterday. Next to the food say why you chose it. It could simply be because that is what your family was having.

  4. Influences on Food Choices • Personal likes- You like the smell, taste, texture • Commitment to health- If you want to be healthy you many eat unsalted popcorn or cereal with no sugar • Where you live- Certain foods are grown in different areas. Florida=orange juice, By the water=Fish • Seasons- Many foods are easier and cheaper to buy when they are in season. Corn is grown during a certain time of the year • Family’s eating habits- Your family might have favorite dishes. Traditions passed on or eat ethnic foods, which are foods eaten by a specific culture

  5. Plan, Plan, Plan • Plan the number of meals and snacks you will have a day • Get the right amount of servings from each food group • Follow the dietary guidelines • Make changes in your diet, it’s not too late! • Game time= Snack Attack

  6. Fast Food • Name as many fast food restaurants as you can! • It is a place that serves food quickly. You can order, pay, and get your food without going in the establishment.

Fast Food Facts • Each day 1 and 4 Americans visits a fast food restaurant • McDonald's feeds more than 46 million people a day - more than the entire population of Spain • We spend more than 110 billion dollars a year on fast food • 60 percent of all Americans are either overweight or obese • Before most children can speak they can recognize McDonald's • You would have to walk for seven hours straight to burn off a Super Sized Coke, fry and Big Mac • Most nutritionists recommend not eating fast food more than once a month

  8. Think before ordering • Order foods and beverages that contain vitamins and minerals. Example=baked potato • No salt or butter • Do not order more than 1 fatty food in a meal. It is ok to eat fatty foods now and then just don’t make it your whole meal • Blot off extra fat with a napkin • Order something GREEN! A Vegetable • Order foods that are cooked in a healthful way. Order chicken that is roasted or broiled instead of fried
