  2. ¡Hola chicos y chicas! • Una vez más….Bienvenidos a la clase de Espanol 1 o 2! • One more time…Welcome to Spanish 1 or 2! • Espero tener un año Magnifico pero no lo puedo hacer sin ti! • I hope to have a magnificent year but I can’t do it with out you!!!! Yo Me llamo Sra. De La Torre-Labbe (Sra. DL, DLT, DLTL) • Vamos a aprender mucho este año. Siempre deben estar listos. • We are going to learn a lot this year. You must always be ready. • “If you want your dreams to come true, you mustn’t oversleep”

  3. The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.Tom Bodett • Remember: • Walk in with a smile and a greeting • Come in prepared, ready to work and focused • Do your best, be your best and expect nothing less • Have a PMA every day! (POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE) • Walk away with a smile, and a goodbye. • RESPECT, RESPECT, RESPECT • FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS • CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES! • I DISMISS YOU NOT THE BELL, and I will also tell you when it is time to pack up! • HAVE FUN!!!

  4. La clase…y mi syllabus • In order to make this classroom a comfortable and successful place for everyone, my expectations of EACH student are: • EVERY student must give 100% on a daily basis and participate in class. • EVERY student must complete in-class assignments and homework given. • EVERY student must make up work if absent. • EVERY student must bring supplies needed to successfully complete work. • EVERY student must approach work seriously and be ready to work with a PMA (positive mental attitude) everyday.. • “Success is a path YOU Create.” –Sra. DL

  5. Classroom rules are strictly enforced, and EVERY student has SIX basic responsibilities: • Just Remember: BASIC GOOD MANNERS and RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR is always EXPECTED!! I appreciate good etiquette. • Show respect. Be respectful toward one another and the teacher. Being rude is unacceptable. • Wait for your turn. I expect that you will pay attention when the teacher or another student has the floor. Raise your hand. I value your questions, answers and/or concerns, and always remember that I am always listening, watching and assessing you, both subjectively and objectively. • Arrive to class on time. Tardiness is unacceptable and EACH student must be in his or her seat when the bell rings. Remember that attendance is a KEY factor for success. • Think before you speak. Cruel teasing, swearing, foul gestures is unacceptable. • “A Sharp tongue can cut your own throat.”(not on syllabus) • Keep CELL PHONES turned OFF. If I can see it OR hear it buzz, vibrate, chirp, hum, purr, sing, or talk, it will be confiscated. (NOTE:Confiscated Electronic Devices will be turned into the FRONT OFFICE!.) ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (I-pods, CD players, etc.) will also be dealt with in the same manner.

  6. “Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important.” • Classroom procedures will be as followed: • Homework is assigned daily and due the next day. Each student is granted FOUR passes per semester – use them wisely!! (extra credit at end semester if not used) • Make-up work is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY and is accepted only for excused absences. You will have one week to make up any work missed. • Due dates and major tests will be announced in advance. • Late work is never accepted and is given a zero. • If caught cheating, you will receive a zero and a referral will be written. • A participation/attendance grade will be issued through out the year through different activities. You will be awarded points for participating in class, staying on task, giving 100% daily. • Each student is granted FOUR bathroom/water passes per quarter – use them wisely!! (extra credit at end of quarter if not used) • No eating and/or drinking in class, with the exception of water!! •  Dress code policy will be strictly enforced • *passes can be taken away at any time.

  7. “One thing you can’t recycle is wasted time” • The Grading Policy in this class is as follows: 40/40/20 • Grades are based on total percentage points. Each assignment will be worth a certain number of points. The total number of points earned will determine your percentage grade. All grades are done using the following percentage total: • A  90% - 100% • B  80% - 89% • C  70% - 79% • D  60% - 69% • F  Below 60% • I will gladly speak with any student or parent/guardian concerning the students’ progress at any time during the year. Email is the best way to get a hold of me. Students, you are more then welcome to come in and get tutoring after school. I challenge you • I challenge you to honor who you are. • I challenge you to enjoy your life rather than endure it. • I challenge you to create the status quo rather than accept it. • I challenge you to live in your imagination more than your memory. • I challenge you to live your life as a revolution and not just a process of evolution. • I challenge you to ignore other people’s ignorance so that you may discover your own wisdom.

  10. I promise you • I promise to do my part. • I promise to stand beside you. • I promise to believe in you, even when you have lost faith in yourself. • I am here for you. • Let’s have a great year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

  11. But understand…. Every choice you make has a consequence. Live by and be proud of every choice YOU make. You must help yourself before I can help you. You must ask yourself, have I done my best today? Every day is a bit better with a little PMA. It goes a long way!

  12. Learning a foreign language takes motivation, commitment, and LOTS of practice. Strong study skills are one of the biggest factors for success in the classroom. Stay dedicated, complete required work, be consistently present, demonstrate commitment and desire to learn, take part in class discussion and activities and remember that GRADES are earned and not given. • Don’t Quit… • When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,When the funds are low and the debts are high,And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,When care is pressing you down a bit,Rest! if you must; but don't you quit. • Life is queer with its twists and turns,As everyone of us sometimes learns,And many a failure turns aboutWhen he might have won had he stuck it out;Don't give up, though the pace seems slow; You might succeed with another blow. • Often the goal is nearer thanIt seems to a faint and faltering man,Often the struggler has given upWhen he might have captured the victor's cup.And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,How close he was to the golden crown. • Success is failure turned inside out;The silver tint of the clouds of doubt; And you never can tell how close you are,It may be near when it seems afar;So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit; It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit
