  1. Art Poem Guidelines

  2. Romantic Poetry • Please take your romanticism notes and your TP-CASTT Guideline handout.

  3. First Step • Walk around the room to where the pieces of art are located. After viewing them, choose one that appeals to you the most. Write down its number and study the features of the piece.

  4. Second Step • Now, after choosing your artwork and making observations, return to your seat and write/paraphrase what is happening in the painting or what it makes you imagine about it. • Write in your own words and do not worry, at this point, about adding imagery or poetic devices.

  5. Third Step • Now, think of words and phrases that you can associate with your piece of art. Write down examples of imagery, metaphors and descriptive detail. Think of how it would sound, taste, smell etc.

  6. Fourth Step • After thinking about word choice and imagery, think of the attributes of romanticism that are present in the painting and which ones you want to include in your poem. Write these down and think of how they will appear in your poem.
