  1. Status of the code: development, release, and program for the future Alfredo Ferrari CERN, Geneva Switzerland Milan 9/7/2010

  2. Summary of the status of developments • Refined Glauber cross sections for light nuclei (together with R. Engel) (ongoing, for the release??**) • (Photo)fission, angular momentum… (ongoing, for the release?*) • New nucleon elastic scattering model (almost completed, for the release, still some problems?*) • NUNDIS DIS neutrino event generator (completed, improvements still in the pipeline) • Further improvements in DPMJET-3 (pTand multiplicity retuning, by Hannes/Stefan/Ralph) (reopened after LHC data, to be checked in time for the release) • Improvements in BME for peripheral reactions(urgent! Should be in place for the release) • Make Flair fully FLUGG aware (completed) • Improvements in PEANUT at intermediate energies (ongoing, to be completed for the release) • Pointwise low energy neutron cross sections and interactions (started, not for the release) Alfredo Ferrari, Milan 9/7/2010

  3. Summary of the status of developments • Lattices of lattices (started, no chance for the release) • Directives in geometry (completed, to be tested) • Nuclear stopping power, Barkas and Bloch corrections (completed) • Mott corrections to heavy ion stopping power (ongoing, to be completed for the release) • Automatic ICRU materials (completed, others to be added in future) • Deposited charge scoring (almost completed, to be checked) • NIEL and DPA scoring (a HUGE work!!) (completed, further improvements under progress) • NIEL and DPA following bremsstrahlung and pair production (ongoing, to be completed for the release) • #include preprocessor directive (completed) • Special source distributions (completed, to be checked) • Special source routines (completed, to be checked) • Robustness in lattice tracking (almost completed, still some improvements required) • Coupling with accelerator transport codes (ongoing, for the release) Alfredo Ferrari, Milan 9/7/2010

  4. Summary of status of the developments • LPM effect in pair production (completed) • Time scoring in USRYIELD (completed) • Improvements in the Fermi breakup (ongoing, for the release??**) • Porting DPMJET-3, rQMD, BME to g95/gfortran (Mac, Linux) (started, it should be completed for the release) • Improvements in DPMJET-2.5 (charm production, by Hannes), Toni -> testing (ongoing, for the release??**) • New bodies in geometry (torus, generic quadric etc) (ongoing, for the release quadric only) • Improvements in the hadronization(started, not for the release) • New, PEANUT based, coalescence including bound particles (ongoing, for the release??**) • New, PEANUT based, d, t, 3He, α interaction model at low energies (started, maybe d for the release??**) Alfredo Ferrari, Milan 9/7/2010

  5. Summary of status of the developments • What about the Cosmic Ray package (Silvia) (almost completed, for the release, still some problems?*) • Revised cross sections for d,t,3He,4He (almost completed, for the release) • Metastable states in low energy neutron library (ongoing, for the release??**) • Annihilation photon acolinearity(ongoing, not for the release) • Documenting all new features (started, it must be completed for the release) • Testing the “new” compilers (started, it must be completed for the release) Alfredo Ferrari, Milan 9/7/2010

  6. ICRU predefined materials: reminder • 9 standard ICRP/ICRU compounds of biological interest have been predefined: • Water: WATER • Polystyrene: POLYSTYR • Plastic Scint.: PLASCINT • PMMA: PMMA • Compact Bone: BONECOMP • Cortical Bone: BONECORT • Skeletal Muscle: MUSCLESK • Striated Muscle: MUSCLEST • Adipose Tissue: ADTISSUE • Electronic (and nuclear) stopping power for these materials now strictly follows the ICRU numbers even at very low energies • Those materials can be used in an input by name, simply “naming” them (eg with ASSIGNMAT), with no need to define them explicitly! • If a user defines a material of similar name and compoistion the code automatically “matches” it to the predefined one and uses all relevant predefined parameters/stopping power • Sternheimer, I, etc parameters are predefined, and used when a matching is found. They can still be changed through MAT-PROP Alfredo Ferrari, Milan 9/7/2010

  7. What to do for the release? Options… • Make a patch release of fluka2008.3(d) in order to fix a couple of recent problems (a memory corruption in radioactive decay calculations, and the bounding box issue for ARB’s)?? • Issue a pre-release before the FLUKA advanced course (October)??? • Try to finalize a “real” public release before the advance course?? … discussion … Alfredo Ferrari, Milan 9/7/2010

  8. Fluka Scientific Committee current membership FSC: • Giuseppe Battistoni INFN/Milan Giuseppe.Battistoni@mi.infn.it • Federico Carminati CERN/PH Federico.Carminati@cern.ch • Francesco CeruttiCERN/EN Francesco.Cerutti@cern.ch • Alberto Fasso` SLAC Fasso@slac.stanford.edu • Alfredo Ferrari CERN/EN Alfredo.Ferrari@cern.ch (secretary) • Maurizio Pelliccioni INFN/LNF Maurizio.Pelliccioni@lnf.infn.it • Larry Pinsky UHPinsky@uh.edu • Johannes Ranft Siegen Un. Sala INFN/Milan Paola.Sala@mi.infn.it • VasilisVlachoudisCERN/EN Vasilis.Vlachoudis@cern.ch Two FSC members (chosen internally according to the field of interest) will give a quick look at the relevant presentation/publication and in case suggest changes/corrections. The election for the 5 non ex-officio members will be performed now, according to the procedure agreed (5 “points” available for each collaboration member to be used in whichever combination, 1 by 1 for 5 candidates, 5 on the same candidate, etc) Please whoever is willing to stand for election (including expiring members) contact me as soon as possible!!!
