  2. Introduction • Stuttering is one of the most common speech problems seen today. The damage it inflicts on someone’s self-esteem is absolutely overwhelming, which has far-reaching consequences on their life in general. Social, familial, and even work relationships can all be impacted.

  3. Task • You are going to learn a substantial amount about stuttering, the physical and neurological causes of it, the symptoms of a stutterer, and a good amount regarding the effect it can have on someone. • At the end of this, you will produce a short (1-3 page) paper on stuttering.

  4. Process • First, research the causes of stuttering. Find at least 3 of them. • Next, pull together the symptoms of stuttering. There are different types, identify at least 2. • Finally, research the impact stuttering has in the long-term if left untreated. • Several websites with relevant information are listed here. • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuttering#Characteristics • http://www.asha.org/public/speech/disorders/stuttering.htm • http://kidshealth.org/parent/emotions/behavior/stutter.html • http://www.nsastutter.org/ • http://www.stutteringhelp.org/

  5. Evaluation • 2 points for each cause of stuttering you managed to identify. (Maximum of 6 points.) • 2 points for each symptom of stuttering you identified. (Maximum of 4 points.) • How clear and concise was the information you’ve collected? (Scale of 5 points.) • Organization, grammar, and spelling. (5 points.)

  6. Conclusion • At this point, you should understand more about stuttering than you did when you began. Specifically, you should now know several causes, symptoms, and the impact of stuttering on the lives of the victim, which is why we as speech pathologists must do our best to help them.
