  1. Asking the right questions: GuidanceJohn 14.5-10

  2. “Don’t start from here.”

  3. What have I done wrong?  • What's happening?  • Why is this happening?    • Did I miss something God?   • Did I hear you incorrectly? • Why, God?

  4. Guidance is a gift we receive rather than a task we accomplish. We need to develop a posture of receptivity. Richard Foster

  5. the way – “no one comes to the Father but by Me”. • the truth – “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.” (Col 2:9) • the life –“ He is the true God and eternal life.” (1Jn 5:20).

  6. "No one has ever seen God, but God the only Son, who is at the Father's side, has made him known" John 1:18 Jesus is the only authorized revelation of God in human form and he is the only authorized representative of humanity to God.

  7. Lord God, what am I to do? Instead Lord God, how can I become all you intend me to be?

  8. In many cases there is no perfect or individual will that the Christian must discover in order to please God. Scripture doesn't teach the individual will of God for each decision. Where there is no direct command the believer is free to choose.

  9. God’s will plus our unity equals authority. Unity rather than majority rule is the principle of corporate guidance. Spirit-given unity goes beyond mere agreement.

  10. How can I get Jesus to bless the things I am doing? Instead Jesus, where are you working?

  11. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1.5

  12. How can I get what I want? Instead Lord Jesus, what would please your heart?

  13. Impressions of the heart • Influence of Scripture • Interpreting circumstances • Implications of spiritual gifts

  14. Impressions of the heart Christ is even more concerned that you understand and respond to the desires he has put within you than you are.

  15. Influence of Scripture We discovered the authority and truth of Scripture when in the challenging decisions of life we choose to obey it.

  16. Interpreting circumstances Circumstances should be judged by the logical outworking of the ultimate effect they will on the final outcome

  17. Implications of spiritual gifts When the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are combined with the Spiritual gifts the way forward is made clearer.
