  1. 1 John 5:1-15 “Nike”

  2. 1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.

  3. Review of 1 John 4 God pours Love Into our Hearts when He saves us Romans 5:5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

  4. Review of 1 John 4 God pours Love Into our Hearts when He saves us That love is directed, by grace, toward Christ, and… God the Father Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

  5. Review of 1 John 4 Love is poured into our hearts, given on to us as grace --- a gift We are then, by grace, commanded to express that love to others The Holy Spirit then moves us to read the command, then moves our hearts to obey and we love our brothers and sisters

  6. 1 John 5:1-3 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

  7. Not Burdensome God does not want us to disobey Him, but neither does He want us to obey out of fear or necessity What Paul wrote about givingalso applies to living 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

  8. Cheerful Giving is… is a family matter…. We are serving a loving Father and helping our brothers and sisters in Christ --- We have been born of God, we love God, and we love God’s children…. And we demonstrate this love by keeping God’s commandments.

  9. The Result… NIKE 1 John 5:4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

  10. Overcomers 1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

  11. Why are we Overcomers? John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

  12. What does Nike Look Like? Contentment Confidence Peace

  13. How do we respond to Nike? Thank Him Honor Him in thought, Word and Deed Praise Him!

  14. 1 John 4 & 5: Confidence “That you should Know” But…. how do we know that Jesus Christ is God?

  15. 1 John 5:6-12 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

  16. First Witness—the Water Matthew 3:16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

  17. Second Witness—The Blood John 12:28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

  18. Third Witness—the Spirit John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.

  19. 1 John 5:13-15 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him…

  20. Confidence in…. Being a victor…. NIKE Being an Overcomer of the World…. Being a Child of God…. All by… Grace
