Coins These were that coins were able to be traded • Guinea • Gold Mohur • Spanish dollar • Ducat • Rupee • Pagoda • Dutch Guilder • English shilling To understand the value of these coins; there are 20 shillings in a pound, and 12 pennies in shillings. Therefore there are 240 pence in a pound. End Bibliography

  3. Guinea Menu • The Guinea was worth 1 pound and 1 shilling. • It was once worth exactly 1 pound, but because of the increase of gold prices, it was increased by 1 shilling. • Although the guinea was replaced by the pound, it is still used in house selling, horse racing and luxury items.

  4. Gold Mohur Menu • The Gold Mohur is worth 1 pound, 17 shillings and 6 pence. • This coins was also used in the British East Indian Company. • They probably came from Bengal

  5. Spanish Dollar Menu • Because of the shortage of coins, they just punched holes in the Spanish Coins. • The outer ring of the coin was worth 5 shillings and was called the Holey dollar. • The centre of the coin that was punched out was worth 15 pence and was called a dump. • It was the first official currency produced specifically for Australia.

  6. Ducat Menu • The Ducat is worth 9 shillings and 6 pence. • It had a diameter of 21.8mm and weighed 3.29 grams of which 0.986 are fine gold. • It was the was the international trade coin of Europe.

  7. Rupee Menu • The East Indian Company Rupee 2 shillings and 6 pence • It was used briefly in Australia in the early 19th century • It is the currency of India, Sri Lanka ,Nepal, Pakistan, Mauritius, Seychelles, Indonesia, Maldives. • It was meant to contain 175 grains of silver

  8. Pagoda Menu • The Pagoda is worth 8 shillings. • They were not minted in Indian, but by their colonial powers. • They have a diameter of 11mm and weighed 3.41 grams of 82. 3% gold.

  9. Dutch Guilder Menu • The Dutch Guilder is worth 2 shillings. • These coins were minted in most part of the Netherlands. • They have a large diameter of 30mm and weighed 10.5 grams of which 0.911were fine silver.

  10. English shilling Menu • The English shilling is worth 1 shilling and 1 pence. • It was minted from 6 g of sterling silver.
