  3. Cardiac Muscle • Also known as myocardium. • The Cardiac muscle is called an involuntary muscle because conscious thought doesn’t control its contractions. • The thick muscles of the heart contract to pump blood out and then relax to let blood back in after it has circulated through the body.

  4. Smooth Muscle • Smooth muscle like the Cardiac muscle are involuntary. • They make up internal organs like your stomach, throat, small intestine and all other except the heart. • Smooth muscle are usually spherical as most human cells are.

  5. Skeletal System • Skeletal muscles are the only voluntary muscles of the body that make up the muscular system. • They’re all muscles that move your bones and show external movement. • Unlike the other two classes skeletal muscle contain multiple nuclei because of its hard size.

  6. Random Facts • There are over 600 muscles in your body. • 40% of your body weight is your muscles. • It takes 17 muscles to smile and 42 to frown. • The eye is the hardest working muscle. • Largest muscle in your body is your buttocks. • Muscles in the root of your hair give your goose bumps.
