Natural Disasters. What are some different types of natural disasters?. Drought. a long period of time with little or no rainfall. Earthquake. a shaking of the earth, caused by the movement of tectonic plates or by volcanic activity. Flood.

  2. What are some different types of natural disasters?

  3. Drought a long period of time with little or no rainfall

  4. Earthquake a shaking of the earth, caused by the movement of tectonic plates or by volcanic activity

  5. Flood an overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry

  6. Landslide the downward movement of rock, dirt, or artificial earth

  7. Monsoon a wind from the southwest, or south that brings heavy rainfall to southern Asia in the summer

  8. Tornado a violent, often destructive whirling wind with a funnel shaped cloud that moves across the land

  9. Volcanic Eruption the sudden burst of steam and volcanic material (for example: ash, lava, rocks, and gases)

  10. Tsunami a very large ocean wave caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption

  11. Typhoon/Hurricane Hurricane: a storm with a violent wind Typhoon: a tropical storm in the area of the Indian Ocean or the western Pacific Ocean
