  2. During the Middle Ages, the best scientists and doctors were not in Europe . They were in the Islamic Empire to the south and east.The Crusades, by sending a lot of Europeans to go live in West Asia for a while, helped to spread Islamic science to Europe

  3. Many inportant discoveries happened during this time • The scientific method, as systematic approach to theory and experimentation, developed during the Middle Ages • The Middle Ages produced the first model of lunar motion that matched physical observations. • Middle Ages took the science from simple recipes and brute force approaches to sophisticated formulae and devices.

  4. More important discoveries • Medieval researchers developed the techniques and tools that led to modern surgical practices. • During the early Middle Ages, the horseshoe was invented, and also a new kind of horse harness that worked better than what the Romans had. • Chimneys were also invented in Europe in the Middle Ages.

  5. Albert the Great (1193–1280) • Doctor Universalis, was one of the most prominent representatives of the philosophical tradition emerging from the Dominican Order. • He became famous for his knowledge and defense of the pacific coexistence between science and religion. • Albert was an essential figure in introducing Greek and Islamic science into the medieval universities

Medieval Astronomical Compendium • It is an astronomical compendium, signed by Humfrey Cole, made in 1568 for the Elizabethan printer and publisher Richard Jugge. • … The compendium includes a quadrant, room for drawing instruments, a compass, a universal equinoctial sundial, a table of latitudes of towns and an incomplete calendar.” • This instrument comes from The Museum of the History of Science - the Ashmolean in Oxford.
