  1. Welcome to TCAP-Alt PA K-2 Scoring Training Section 1: Required Components: Is this Portfolio Scorable?

  2. For this training section, you will need the following documents: • Exemplar for grades K-2 (Ben Weasely) • Scoring checklist If you do not have the materials listed above, please pause this presentation and return once you’ve retrieved them.

  3. The First Step • The first step in scoring a TCAP-Alt PA portfolio is determining whether or not the portfolio is scorable. • This is based on the inclusion of the required components, which are listed in the upper right corner of your scoring checklist.

  4. Required Components The following components are required: • Table of Contents • Participation Guidelines page with psychologist’s electronic signature • Participation Guidelines page with principal’s signature AND date (box is checked) • Teacher’s signature AND date on Affidavit of Student Performance • Principal’s signature AND date on Affidavit of Student Performance (box is checked) • At least one completed evidence sheet OR graph.

  5. Table of Contents • The first required component is the Table of Contents. It should be filled out with the student’s name, date of birth, grade level, system, school, and the page number on which each content area of the portfolio begins. • Comments in the comment box are optional.

  6. This is a completed Table of Contents

  7. Participation Guidelines • In order to show eligibility for TCAP-Alt PA, two pages of the student’s Participation Guidelines are required. • The first is the page with the psychologist’s electronic signature.

  8. This is page 1 of the Participation Guidelines.

  9. The second is the page with the principal’s handwritten signature and date. (The assistant principal or other proxy may NOT sign.)

  10. This is the second required page of the Participation Guidelines.

  11. Affidavit of Student Performance The Affidavit of Student Performance verifies that the contents of the student’s portfolio are valid and that no part of the portfolio was fabricated or falsified.

  12. The Affidavit must be signed and dated by BOTH the teacher and the principal.

  13. Evidence Sheet and Graph • For a portfolio to be scorable, it must contain at least one completed evidence sheet OR graph. • The “updated” date in the lower left-hand corner of the graph page and evidence sheet must be 2010 or later. • Forms created prior to 2010 are not scorable.

  14. This is a completed evidence sheet.

  15. This is a completed graph page.

  16. Missing Components If any two of these required components are missing, incorrect, or incomplete, the portfolio receives a code of “I,” which translates to a score of zero in all dimensions: • Table of Contents • Participation Guidelines page with psychologist’s electronic signature • Participation Guidelines page with principal’s signature AND date (box is checked) • Teacher’s signature AND date on Affidavit of Student Performance • Principal’s signature AND date on Affidavit of Student Performance (box is checked) • At least one completed evidence sheet OR graph.

  17. Moving Forward • If the required components are present (with no more than one component missing or incomplete), the portfolio is scorable. • Sometimes you will find a scorable portfolio with one or more content areas/subjects that are not scorable.

  18. Scorability of Individual Content Areas/Subjects • For a content area/subject to be scorable, there must be at least one evidence sheet or graph for that subject. • If a given content area/subject has either an evidence sheet or a graph with scorable information on it, that content area/subject can be scored.

  19. Missing Evidence Sheets and Graphs • For any given content area/subject, if both the evidence sheet and graph page are missing or blank, each dimension of the portfolio receives a code of “I” for that subject. • This translates to a score of zero for that subject.

  20. Let’s look at our grade 3-8 exemplar portfolio (Ben Weasely). *Note: All of the portfolios you will see in this training are facsimiles. None of the students referenced are actual students.

  21. Does Ben’s portfolio contain all of the required components?

  22. Table of contents? Yes.

  23. Participation Guidelines page with the psychologist’s electronic signature? Yes.

  24. Participation Guidelines page with the principal’s dated signature? Yes.

  25. Teacher’s dated signature on Affidavit? Yes. • Principal’s dated signature on Affidavit? Yes.

  26. At least one completed evidence sheet OR graph page on current forms? Yes. In Ben’s case, we have at least one of each.

  27. All components are present, so Ben’s portfolio is scorable.

  28. Required Content Areas/Subjects When you look through Ben’s whole portfolio, you’ll notice that all four content areas are included. K-2 students are required to test in the same content areas as the general education students in their system. If a required subject is missing, it should receive a code of “I” in all dimensions. Non-required subjects should receive a code of “NA” (not applicable).

  29. This concludes Section 1 of the TCAP-Alt PA K-2 Scoring Training • In Section 2, you will learn how to use the rubrics, Content Standards and Alternate Performance Indicators Document, scoring checklist, Scoring-at-a-Glance document, and TCAP-Alt PA Scoring Guide.
