Overview of New Resources Manipulative Kits • Check to make sure you received all the materials • There are a few items that you will still need: see list of required supplies (next slide) • Organization of kits – see photos at http://blog.scs.sk.ca/hayes/ • Ordering of storage containers – please discuss with your Math Department and let me know by Friday, September 18th

Overview of New Resources ProGuide CD - editable files (need Math Type 6.0 and Adobe Reader) • Program Masters • Unit Masters (from the back of each Unit ProGuide, including the sample test & step-by-step masters) • Planning for Instruction Charts • EP(Extra Practice) & APK (Activating Prior Knowledge) Handouts • Projects (Unit 1, 4, 9)

Overview of New Resources Test Generator – different types and levels of questions for each unit & questions that reinforce/review prior skills and knowledge • Go to Select: to choose questions - Randomly, From a List, While Viewing, By Standard, By Criteria, or All Questions • Go to Test: to adjust layout, header • To Save: Save as “Unit 2 Quiz” in the “Test” Folder on the CD

Overview of New Resources Solutions CD – worked out solutions to the assignments Preparation and Practice Book - reproducible copy and teacher edition • This book is designed to support teachers in their work with students who struggle with math. • It parallels the textbook, but provides a lower entry point for weak students. • Handouts can also be used to review prior concepts and reinforce the course material.

  11. Unit 3 – Rational Numbers Some examples of new strategies used in Unit 3: • adding/subtracting fractions using a number line • multiplying and dividing decimals using estimation • dividing fractions using a common denominator

  13. Unit 3 – Rational Numbers Unit 3 Jigsaw Each teacher receives a number 1 – 6. Meet in a group with your common number. You have 10 minutes to go through your assigned section making note of the following: • Positive/Interesting features • Concepts/strategies that are new to teachers • Concepts that students may find challenging • Concepts that may require review
